On February 13, Apple Music posted, “BTW, we’re still the same price,” as Spotify’s new U.S. prices began applying to February renewals. Apple later raised its own U.S. subscription prices in July 2026.
What Apple Music said about Spotify’s price increase
Apple Music’s social account posted “BTW, we’re still the same price” on February 13, 2026. The line landed as Spotify’s latest U.S. subscription increases began taking effect for customers renewing that month. At the time, Apple Music’s individual plan cost $10.99 per month, compared with $12.99 for Spotify Premium Individual, according to 9to5Mac’s February 13 report.
The joke was a short-lived comparison of U.S. prices, not a pledge that Apple Music would never raise its rates. It also addressed individual plans; family and student plans had their own prices.

The Spotify prices and the February Apple Music comparisons in the table come from 9to5Mac’s report. The post’s clearest like-for-like point was the individual tier: Apple Music cost $2 less per month than Spotify at the time.
Apple Music raised its U.S. prices in July 2026
Apple increased its U.S. Apple Music prices on July 17, 2026. Its statement to 9to5Mac attributed the change to licensing costs: “As a result of rising licensing costs, Apple Music is increasing its subscription price beginning today.” The statement was attributed to Apple, not to a named individual. The July 17 report and Apple’s U.S. Apple Music page list these monthly prices:

So the February comparison no longer describes Apple’s price against Spotify’s February rates: Apple’s individual price rose by July, and the family and student rates rose as well. The evidence here does not establish Spotify’s prices after the February figures, so it cannot show which service is cheaper now. Check the plan pages for your country and compare the same tier before deciding.

The figures above are U.S. monthly prices tied to the dates reported; they should not be applied to other countries. Spotify’s August 2025 announcement described price changes in multiple markets and directed customers to local plan listings. Its support page says subscribers are emailed about a new price and have a one-month grace period to cancel before the change takes effect. Spotify also offers a free, ad-supported service as an alternative.

Apple’s current U.S. product page describes lossless audio, Spatial Audio, offline downloads, and support across Apple and non-Apple devices. Those features do not by themselves determine which service is better for a particular listener; the choice depends on the plans, devices, and features they use.
