Amazon Prime Video’s native Watch Party feature was discontinued on April 2, 2024. You will not find a current Prime Video Watch Party button, and upgrading to an ad-free plan will not restore it.
The closest documented replacement is Teleparty for Prime Video, which synchronizes playback in a supported browser and adds group text chat. If that does not work for your group, Discord screen sharing is a fallback—but it is not the same as synchronized playback and may be affected by streaming-app, browser, audio, or device restrictions.
What happened to Prime Video Watch Party?
Prime Video Watch Party was Amazon’s built-in remote co-viewing feature. A host selected an eligible movie or episode, invited other viewers, and watched with the group in a shared session rather than asking everyone to press Play at the same time.
Amazon staff responses in the official Amazon forum state that the feature was discontinued on April 2, 2024. A separate Amazon staff response confirms that hosting Watch Party is no longer available. Older help pages, screenshots, and articles that show a Watch Party button describe the former feature, not a current Prime Video option.

Amazon’s current Prime Video help material covers topics such as accounts, devices, playback, casting, subscriptions, and content access, but does not list native Watch Party as a current setup feature. The practical consequence is simple: there is no supported Amazon setting you can turn on to bring the original Watch Party back.
The best current replacement: Teleparty
Teleparty is the closest documented replacement for the discontinued Prime Video feature. Its official Prime Video instructions describe a browser-extension workflow in which everyone opens the same title, joins a shared party, and receives synchronized playback controls. Teleparty also provides group text chat.
Teleparty is not a Prime Video subscription and does not provide access to movies or shows. It coordinates viewing between people who already have legitimate access to the relevant streaming service.
How to watch Prime Video together with Teleparty
- Install Teleparty. Use a supported desktop browser extension, or the supported Android app where applicable. Teleparty’s current support documentation lists Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari browser availability. Check its device requirements before planning to watch on a smart TV, game console, iPhone, or iPad.
- Make sure everyone can access the title. Each participant should have the required Prime Video account or subscription and should be able to play the movie or episode in their own location.
- Open Prime Video in the supported browser. Sign in, find the documentary, film, or episode you want to watch, and open its playback page.
- Start the video. Begin playback, then select the Teleparty button in the browser toolbar. If the button is hidden, open the browser’s extensions menu and pin or select Teleparty.
- Create the party. Follow Teleparty’s prompt to start a viewing session. The service generates an invitation link.
- Share the invitation link. Send it to your friends through your preferred messaging service.
- Have each person join correctly. Every participant should open the invitation, install or open Teleparty as required, sign in to the necessary streaming service, and join the session.
Once everyone is connected, Teleparty handles the playback synchronization. Depending on the service’s current design and permissions, the host or participants may have playback controls, while the group can use the text chat to discuss what they are watching.

- Individual access: Teleparty’s support guidance says every participant needs access to an account for the streaming service being used. Do not assume that one person’s Prime Video access automatically authorizes everyone else.
- The same title: The documentary or program must be available to each participant. A title included with Prime Video in one account or country may require a rental, purchase, add-on subscription, or different access in another.
- Regional availability: Amazon’s Prime Video terms explain that digital content and the way it is offered can vary over time and by location. A group in different countries should not assume that everyone sees the same catalog.
- A supported device: The most reliable workflow is a supported desktop browser. Teleparty’s support information identifies Android availability but, at the time of its documented update, did not list iOS smartphones and tablets, smart TVs, gaming consoles, or other living-room devices as supported.
- The required extension or app: Teleparty says each participant must install the extension or app. Joining only through a normal browser tab may not be enough.
Teleparty troubleshooting
The Teleparty button is missing
Confirm that you installed Teleparty in the browser you are actually using to open Prime Video. Check the browser’s extensions menu, pin Teleparty to the toolbar, and reload the Prime Video page. If the extension still does not appear, update or reinstall it and verify that your browser version is supported.
A friend cannot join
Have the friend open the invitation link in a supported browser, install or open Teleparty, and sign in to the required streaming service. They should also verify that the title is available to their account and region. A link alone cannot bypass Prime Video’s subscription, rental, purchase, or geographic-access requirements.
Everyone joined, but the video will not play
Check that every participant can play the title independently outside the party. If one person receives an access or availability error, the problem is probably Prime Video access rather than synchronization. If everyone has access, refresh the session, update or reinstall Teleparty, and try creating a new party from the title’s playback page.
The group sees different content or playback errors
Confirm that everyone selected the same movie or episode and is using the same Prime Video service or account arrangement. Catalogs and content rights vary by location and can change over time. Also check whether one participant is using a device or browser that Teleparty does not support.
Fallback option: Discord screen sharing
Discord screen sharing can work when the group mainly needs a host to show a desktop Prime Video window while everyone talks in a voice channel or direct message. Discord’s official support documentation describes sharing an application window or an entire screen, and viewers can join the live stream. Discord documents up to 50 people sharing video or a screen in a voice chat, with a maximum of 50 concurrent viewers for a Go Live stream.

- Open Prime Video on a desktop computer.
- Select Discord’s screen-share or Go Live control.
- Choose the Prime Video application window rather than the entire desktop whenever possible. This reduces the chance of showing unrelated private notifications or applications.
- Have friends join the stream and use Discord voice or text chat to communicate.
Discord is a communication-platform fallback, not an official Amazon replacement. It may not provide individual playback control, precise synchronization, or the same viewing quality as a dedicated co-watching service. The host’s internet connection, operating system, browser, audio permissions, and device settings can affect the result.
Discord also warns in its support material that some streaming applications impose restrictions, particularly in mobile screen sharing. Separate limitations can apply to mobile devices, operating systems, and audio sharing. If viewers see a black screen, hear no sound, or receive a blocked-stream result, changing Discord settings may not solve the problem; the streaming service or device may prevent the video from being transmitted.

For privacy and reliability, share only the application window where possible, close unrelated notifications, and test both video and audio before inviting the full group. Everyone should still have lawful access to the Prime Video content.

Teleparty is the strongest documented fit here because its official material explicitly names Amazon Prime Video and provides a current setup flow.
