Yes—Amazon still documents Prime Video for Windows 10 and Windows 11, and Microsoft Store lists the official app. Its clearest advantage over watching in a browser is offline downloads. The trade-off is a modest documented quality ceiling: up to HD video and stereo sound, not a guaranteed 1080p stream or a Windows 4K/HDR home-theater experience. Availability can vary, so check the Store listing and test playback—and any downloads—before relying on the app.
What is Prime Video for Windows?
Prime Video for Windows is the official app listed in the Microsoft Store. It is separate from Amazon Shopping, the Prime Video website, Microsoft Movies & TV, and third-party download utilities. The Store lists the app as free, but installing it does not unlock the catalog: you still need the relevant access for a title, such as a Prime membership, a Prime Video subscription where offered, a rental or purchase, or a channel subscription.
Amazon’s current computer requirements name Windows 10 and Windows 11. That is evidence of documented OS support, not a guarantee that every Windows 10 edition, PC, region, or Store account can install and play without difficulty. Store availability, hardware, graphics drivers, DRM and display protection, and network conditions can all affect the result. Amazon’s public documentation also does not establish whether every current app build is a traditional native client, a web-based wrapper, or a partially migrated app.

Treat the app’s behavior as something to verify on your own device rather than assuming either that it is gone or that every installation behaves identically.

How to install the app
- Open the Microsoft Store and search for Prime Video for Windows, or open the direct Store listing.
- Check that the listing is Amazon’s Prime Video app, not a similarly named third-party utility.
- Select Get or Install (the wording may vary by Store version and region).
- Launch the app and sign in with the Amazon account that has access to the content you want to watch.
- Play a title to confirm playback works. If you need offline viewing, try a download and test it before travelling.
If the Store search does not find the app, use the direct listing, check that the Store is signed in, and install pending Windows and Store updates. Check the device’s region and account settings, restart, and try again. As a general Microsoft Store recovery measure—not an Amazon-specific fix—you can run wsreset.exe from Windows Search or the Run dialog to reset the Store cache, then reopen the Store. Store installation failures have been reported, but an individual error does not establish a wider Amazon service problem. If installation still fails, use Prime Video in a supported browser.

“Up to HD” is Amazon’s published wording; it is not a promise of a particular resolution for every title or playback session. Quality can depend on the title, device, connection, and playback conditions. The official Windows specification documents stereo sound and does not establish a Windows app experience matching every TV or streaming device’s 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, or surround-sound capabilities. If those are priorities, check the specifications for a compatible television or streaming device rather than choosing a Windows PC on that expectation.

Amazon says offline downloads require its Prime Video app on Windows 10 or Windows 11. In the app, find a movie or show, look for Download, choose a quality or settings option if one is offered, and find saved titles in the app’s Downloads area. The exact controls can vary by app build.

A download is for playback inside Prime Video, not a transferable video file. Not every title, rental, purchase, channel program, or regional offering will have a download option. Licenses can expire or require account verification, and the rules can differ by type of access. Downloads also use local storage; several films or a long season can take substantial space. Amazon’s public guidance does not justify promising a universal expiration period, file size, storage location, or simultaneous-download limit. Test both downloading and offline playback before departure, especially if you will be without reliable internet.
App or browser?
Amazon lists current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera as supported computer browsers. On Windows, the documented browser experience is also up to HD with stereo, and includes subtitles, audio description, live streaming, advertising support, and profiles. The app’s practical distinction is downloads, not a documented higher picture or sound ceiling.

For ordinary online viewing, a browser may be simpler. For a trip, the app is worth trying specifically for downloads. A supported TV, streaming stick, or console is a better fit if your priority is a living-room experience or higher-end picture and sound; check that device’s own Prime Video support rather than assuming all devices offer the same features.

Troubleshooting playback and installation
Use this sequence to narrow down a problem rather than changing several settings at once:

- Try the same title in a supported browser. If it fails there too, the issue may involve the account, title, network, or service rather than only the app.
- Check whether other streaming services work and confirm your internet connection.
- Install pending Windows and Microsoft Store updates, then update Microsoft Edge as well. Restart the PC.
- Sign out of Prime Video and back in, and check that Windows’ date and time are correct.
- If playback is black, flickers, or crashes, temporarily test with hardware acceleration enabled and disabled where the relevant app or browser setting is available. This is a diagnostic, not a guaranteed fix.
- Update the graphics driver from your PC maker or graphics-card manufacturer. If using an external display, check the cable, display connection, and DRM/HDCP compatibility.
- If the app remains broken, reinstall it and retry. If the problem affects only Prime Video or a particular account, contact Amazon support; otherwise, use the browser while you troubleshoot.
A download button missing for one title may reflect title, account, rental, channel, or regional restrictions, not a broken installation. Likewise, profiles are documented only on selected models, so do not assume they will appear on every PC or build.
Is the Windows app worth using?
For travellers, it can be useful if offline downloads work for the titles they need. Install it, make a test download, and confirm offline playback before leaving. For someone who watches at home and only streams, the browser may be the simpler choice. For viewers who want 4K, HDR, or multichannel audio, a compatible TV or streaming device is a more appropriate place to check Prime Video support. If the Store app is unstable or unavailable, switching to the browser is a sensible fallback—not proof that the app has been discontinued.
