Yes—U.S. Amazon Prime members get access to more than 100 million songs and a large selection of top podcasts without a separate music subscription. But the benefit is not the same as Amazon Music Unlimited: most of the catalog is designed for shuffle playback, while Unlimited lets you choose individual songs on demand.
Amazon introduced this expanded Prime Music benefit on November 1, 2022, increasing the included catalog from roughly 2 million songs to more than 100 million. It remains a Prime benefit, but the original “now comes with” wording is no longer current news. The practical distinction is simple: Prime gives you the catalog; Unlimited gives you more control.
What Amazon Prime Music includes
According to Amazon’s current Music FAQ and Prime benefits page, the U.S. Prime Music benefit includes:
- More than 100 million songs, a figure stated by Amazon rather than an independently audited catalog count.
- Ad-free music.
- Shuffle playback of artists, albums, and playlists.
- Selected All-Access Playlists that can be played on demand.
- Offline listening for eligible All-Access Playlists.
- Thousands of playlists and stations.
- A large catalog of top podcasts that Amazon markets as ad-free.
You can use Prime Music through the Amazon Music web player, mobile app, desktop app, and Echo devices. Availability, catalogs, pricing, and device features can differ outside the United States.

The important limitation: 100 million songs does not mean 100 million songs on demand
The headline is technically true about catalog access but easy to misunderstand. With the included Prime tier, you can generally choose an artist, album, or playlist and start listening in shuffle mode. You cannot assume that tapping any individual song will play that exact track immediately.
For example, Prime Music may let you start an artist’s catalog, but playback can select the songs for you. That is fundamentally different from services that let you open an album, select track seven, and play it whenever you want.
Prime members do get a narrower on-demand exception through All-Access Playlists. These curated or personalized playlists can be played in the order you choose, skipped freely, and downloaded for offline listening. Their availability and behavior may change as Amazon updates the service, so they are not a permanent substitute for unrestricted access to every song.

Amazon’s FAQ describes Music Unlimited as the option for unrestricted, on-demand selection across the catalog.
Are Prime podcasts really ad-free?
Amazon says Prime includes access to the largest catalog of top podcasts available ad-free. That does not necessarily mean every podcast on Amazon Music is ad-free, nor does it guarantee that every episode contains no commercial message at all.
There is an important difference between:
- Advertising inserted by Amazon’s platform.
- Dynamic ads inserted into a podcast feed.
- Host-read sponsorships recorded into the episode.
- Branded segments or promotional content produced as part of the show.
Amazon may remove platform-served advertising from eligible programs, while host-read or embedded sponsorships can remain in the recording. Amazon’s public pages also do not provide a permanent, exhaustive list of every eligible show.

Amazon’s 2022 announcement highlighted examples including CNN, NPR, ESPN, The New York Times, Wondery programs such as Dr. Death, SmartLess, and Even the Rich, along with Amazon-exclusive productions. The shared “100 million songs” figure can make the two services look identical. Their playback controls, download rights, audio options, and plan features are not identical.

Prices and plan terms can change. Amazon’s signup page may show a limited-time trial or promotional offer, and trials generally convert to the displayed recurring price unless canceled. Review eligibility, renewal terms, and the post-trial price before accepting an offer. Amazon’s FAQ also records pricing and billing changes affecting new and existing customers.
How to use the Prime Music benefit
- Open the Amazon Music app, desktop app, or web player.
- Sign in with the Amazon account attached to your Prime membership.
- Browse Home, Library, artists, albums, playlists, stations, or podcasts.
- Use shuffle playback for the broad Prime catalog.
- Look for All-Access Playlists when you need more direct song selection.
- Download an eligible All-Access Playlist for offline listening.
- If you need unrestricted track selection, compare the current Music Unlimited offer before starting a trial or paid subscription.
Device limitations and account details
Prime Music generally supports the web player, mobile app, desktop app, and Echo devices, but the experience is not identical everywhere.
- Echo: All-Access Playlists requested on Echo devices may play in shuffle mode.
- Fire TV: Music playback is available, but Amazon says the full experience is limited.
- Fire Tablet: The full catalog and ad-free podcast availability are not provided in exactly the same way as on supported app and web experiences.
- Family listening: Separate personalized accounts and simultaneous access are features associated with Music Unlimited’s Family plan, not simply with the included Prime Music benefit.

Is Prime Music enough for you?
Prime Music is probably sufficient if you:
- Already pay for Prime mainly for shipping or Prime Video.
- Use music as background listening.
- Enjoy discovery and do not need to choose every track.
- Are satisfied with shuffle playback.
- Mainly want access to ad-free eligible podcasts.
- Can organize favorite listening around available All-Access Playlists.
Music Unlimited is the better fit if you:
- Want to play a specific song immediately.
- Listen to complete albums in a chosen order.
- Need to download your own music mix for a flight or commute.
- Want HD, Ultra HD, or spatial-audio options.
- Need independent listening for several family members.
- Want the included Audible audiobook benefit where your market and plan qualify.
Why Amazon may ask you to upgrade
Seeing an Unlimited upgrade prompt does not mean Prime Music has disappeared. It usually indicates that you selected a feature—such as playing a specific song on demand, downloading a track outside an eligible All-Access Playlist, or using a higher-quality audio option—that belongs to Unlimited rather than the included Prime tier.
That distinction is why a Prime member can see a catalog described as containing more than 100 million songs while still being asked to upgrade to play one particular song.
What about countries outside the U.S.?
Amazon announced the expanded benefit in multiple markets, including the United Kingdom, but the catalog, podcast availability, prices, device support, and playback features can vary by country. The details above use U.S. Prime terms. Check the Amazon Music page for your country rather than assuming that the U.S. offer applies globally.
