Amazon Prime is more than a shipping subscription. In the U.S., the standard membership costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year and combines eligible delivery, Prime Video, selected music and podcast features, Prime Reading, Amazon Photos, gaming perks, shopping deals and other location-dependent benefits.
The biggest March 2026 change is Prime Video Ultra: an optional $4.99-per-month upgrade that adds ad-free viewing, up to five simultaneous streams, up to 100 downloads and exclusive 4K/UHD access. It does not replace or increase the base Prime membership price.

How much does Amazon Prime cost in 2026?

The annual plan costs $139, while 12 monthly payments total $179.88. That makes the annual plan cheaper once you expect to keep Prime beyond approximately the 10th month ($139 ÷ $14.99 is about 9.27 months).

Amazon’s Prime overview describes Prime for Young Adults as covering eligible 18–24-year-olds and college students. Prime Access requires qualification and verification; it is not a general discount available to everyone.
Is there a free Prime trial?
Amazon may offer a free trial, but eligibility is account-specific. Previous trial users, current members and people who canceled recently may see different offers—or no trial at all. Before accepting, check the displayed:
- Trial length
- Plan type after the trial
- Price after the trial
- Renewal date
- Promotional conditions
A trial generally converts to paid membership unless it is canceled before renewal under the terms shown at signup. Use the live Amazon Prime membership page, rather than relying on an old trial description.
What is included with Amazon Prime?
Prime is a bundle. Some benefits are included in the base membership, while others require separate payment, activation or enrollment. Availability can vary by location, item, device, account and service terms.
Delivery and shipping
Eligible products may receive free same-day, one-day or two-day delivery. Amazon says Prime provides free delivery on more than 300 million items, with tens of millions of popular products available for same-day or one-day delivery. Those are Amazon-reported figures, not a guarantee for every item or ZIP code.
The delivery estimate on the product page and at checkout is more important than the Prime logo. Speed depends on inventory, delivery address, cutoff time, seller, fulfillment method and local logistics.
- A Prime item may arrive later when local stock is unavailable.
- Seller-fulfilled Marketplace products may follow different delivery rules.
- Rural, remote, Alaska and Hawaii addresses may have different service levels.
- Large, hazardous, customized, digital and subscription items can follow separate rules.
- Pickup, Amazon Day and other delivery choices may be available for qualifying orders.
Free Prime shipping also does not automatically mean every return, replacement or expedited service is free in every situation.

Prime-exclusive deals and shopping events
Members receive access to Prime-only prices, promotions and events such as Prime Day. The discounts vary by product and event. Membership does not guarantee that a Prime price is the lowest price available elsewhere, so compare when a purchase is significant.
Prime Video
Prime includes access to a changing catalog of movies and shows, including Amazon MGM Studios originals such as Fallout, Reacher, The Boys and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Some live sports and other programming may also be available.
The Prime Video app contains more than the included Prime catalog. A title may be:
- Included with Prime
- Available to rent or buy
- Locked behind a separate channel subscription
- Part of another paid service
The standard U.S. Prime Video experience includes limited ads. Ad-free viewing is now associated with the optional Prime Video Ultra upgrade, not the basic Prime membership.

Prime Video Ultra explained
On March 13, 2026, Amazon announced that its former Prime Video Ad Free subscription would become Prime Video Ultra in the U.S. Ultra is an add-on, not a new base price for Prime.
- Monthly price: $4.99
- Annual option: $45.99 for annual Prime members, described by Amazon as 23% below the monthly equivalent
- Simultaneous streams: Up to five
- Downloads: Up to 100, subject to title and device restrictions
- Video quality: Exclusive 4K/UHD access, where the title, device and connection support it
- Catalog: The same broad Prime Video selection, with enhanced viewing features
Standard Prime remains $14.99 per month or $139 per year. Adding Ultra would make the monthly combination $19.98, but that is not a Prime price increase; it is the base membership plus an optional upgrade.
Ultra is most useful for viewers who want ad-free playback, compatible 4K/UHD equipment, more concurrent streams or larger download limits. It is less compelling if you are satisfied with limited ads, do not have compatible equipment or mainly watch rentals and paid channels.

Prime Music
Prime Music includes selected music and podcast benefits, but it is not the same as a full on-demand music subscription such as Amazon Music Unlimited. Prime benefits include:
- Ad-free top podcasts
- Shuffle play for artists, albums and playlists
- Curated playlists and stations
- Access through Amazon Music apps, the web player and compatible Echo devices
Amazon Music Unlimited is a separate subscription for full-catalog, on-demand listening. Amazon materials have listed a Prime-member price of $10.99 per month, but annual prices have appeared inconsistently across Amazon pages. Check the live checkout page before relying on an annual figure.
Prime Reading
Prime Reading provides a rotating selection of roughly 3,000 ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers and comics, according to Amazon’s current overview. It is not the entire Kindle catalog, Kindle Unlimited or Audible Plus.
Titles rotate, availability can vary by country and account, and access is a membership benefit rather than permanent ownership. You cannot assume that a book borrowed through Prime Reading will remain available indefinitely.

Amazon Photos
Prime includes unlimited full-resolution photo storage and 5 GB of video storage. Photos can be shared and displayed on supported devices such as Fire TV, Echo Show and Fire tablets.
There is no equivalent unlimited-video benefit in the cited Prime offering. If you cancel Prime, export or move files you rely on before the membership ends. Amazon Photos should not automatically be treated as your only backup: verify syncing, deletion and recovery behavior for your devices and account.

Prime Gaming and Luna
Prime gaming benefits can include a monthly Twitch channel subscription, free games or in-game content through Prime Gaming, and selected Amazon Luna access. Amazon describes Luna as having an evolving library of more than 50 games, a GameNight collection of more than 25 family-friendly cloud-playable games, rotating PC games and a monthly Twitch channel subscription.
Catalogs, redemption deadlines, supported devices and regional availability change. Claiming a game or perk may also require activating it before an expiration date.
Pharmacy and prescription benefits
Prime-related healthcare benefits may include prescription savings through Amazon Pharmacy, manufacturer-sponsored coupons and cash-pay discounts. The optional RxPass costs $5 per month for eligible members and covers a list of commonly prescribed generic medications.
Amazon says Prime members can save up to 80% on eligible prescriptions at nearly 60,000 pharmacies and describes RxPass as covering more than 60 commonly prescribed generic medications. These are not guarantees. Prices, eligibility, pharmacy availability, medication coverage and insurance interactions must be checked for the specific prescription and location.
Household sharing
Amazon’s current materials describe Amazon Family as allowing one Prime member to share a broad range of benefits with one other adult and up to four children in the household. Shared benefits can include delivery, Prime Video and selected digital content.
Sharing is intended for members of the same household, and benefits are not necessarily identical for every person. Payment-method sharing and digital-content sharing can create privacy implications. Separate profiles do not create separate Prime memberships. Use Amazon Family’s current setup and eligibility screens for the account-specific rules.

Prime versus Walmart+
Walmart+ costs $98 annually or $12.95 monthly according to Walmart’s membership page. Walmart+ and Prime are not interchangeable: their delivery coverage, catalogs, order minimums and service terms differ.

Walmart+ may fit grocery-heavy households, regular Walmart shoppers, fuel buyers and people who prefer Paramount+ or Peacock. Prime may fit frequent Amazon shoppers and households that use Prime Video, Photos, Reading, Music, gaming or Amazon Pharmacy.

Is Amazon Prime worth it?
There is no universal answer. Calculate value from benefits you will actually use, not from every feature Amazon lists.
- Add the delivery fees you would otherwise pay.
- Add the realistic value of included services you would use regularly.
- Subtract services you already pay for elsewhere and would replace.
- Ignore benefits you will not use.
- Compare the result with $139 annually or $14.99 monthly.
Prime is more likely worth it if you:
- Place frequent eligible Amazon orders.
- Use same-day, one-day or two-day delivery.
- Watch enough included Prime Video content to replace another service.
- Need large photo storage.
- Use Prime Reading, Music, Gaming or eligible prescription savings.
- Share qualifying benefits with someone in your household.
- Shop Prime-exclusive events and deals.
Prime is less likely worth it if you:
- Order from Amazon only a few times each year.
- Mostly watch titles that require rentals, purchases or channels.
- Already pay for equivalent streaming, music and photo services.
- Rarely need fast delivery.
- Live where Prime delivery coverage is limited.
- Prefer Walmart’s grocery, fuel and streaming benefits.
- Often forget to cancel trials or renewals.
Useful scenarios
Frequent shopper: If you place regular eligible orders and would otherwise pay delivery fees, the annual plan is likely the natural comparison. Confirm that the products and delivery speeds you use actually qualify.
Recommended Free Tools
Streaming-focused viewer: Prime can be worthwhile if you watch included titles regularly. Buying Prime for one show is weaker value when that show requires a rental, purchase or separate channel.
Seasonal shopper: Monthly Prime may be safer if you need it only during a short shopping period. Compare the total months needed with the annual-plan break-even point.
Household: Sharing selected benefits with one other adult and children can improve value, but check privacy and benefit-specific limits first.
Occasional shopper: Compare non-Prime shipping fees, free-shipping thresholds, the delivery speed you actually need and the value of digital benefits. Not every non-Prime order necessarily has a shipping charge.

Before starting
- Confirm whether you qualify for a trial or discounted plan.
- Check the post-trial or renewal price.
- Choose monthly or annual billing deliberately.
- Record the renewal date.
- Review which benefits are included and which require extra payment.
To cancel
- Open Amazon’s account and membership-management page.
- Select your Prime membership.
- Choose the cancellation or end-membership option shown.
- Review the displayed end date and any refund information.
- Confirm the cancellation rather than simply closing the page.
- Save the confirmation email or take a screenshot.
Labels and the exact sequence can vary by device, region and account state. Check whether you have used Prime benefits during the current billing period: refund eligibility can depend on usage and the terms shown to your account.
If you rely on Amazon Photos, export or move important files before cancellation and confirm that your photo and video storage needs remain covered afterward.
March 2026 verdict
Amazon Prime is strongest as a multi-benefit household membership: frequent eligible Amazon orders can combine with Prime Video, photo storage, Reading, selected music and gaming benefits to justify the annual price. It is less compelling for light shoppers who mainly want one streaming title or already pay for equivalent services.
Prime Video Ultra should be evaluated separately. It is an optional premium video upgrade at the announced $4.99 monthly price—not a March 2026 increase to the standard Prime membership.
