The right fix depends on what Netflix is doing: failing to open, getting stuck loading, rejecting a sign-in, failing on one title, or showing a black screen. Work through these seven checks in order, starting with tests that do not erase anything. Before resetting or deleting Netflix, note that either action can sign you out and remove downloaded titles.
1. Find out whether the problem is Netflix, your network, or one title
Run a few quick tests before changing settings. They help identify the failing part and avoid resetting the app when, for example, only one title or one Wi-Fi network is affected.
- Try a different Netflix film or episode.
- Open another app or website on the same iPhone.
- If possible, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, then try Netflix again.
- Try Netflix on another device connected to the same Wi-Fi.
- If Netflix works on cellular but not Wi-Fi, investigate the Wi-Fi network, router, or internet provider.
- If other apps also fail, the issue may be the connection or iPhone rather than Netflix.
- If only one Netflix title fails, keep using the app’s other titles and report the affected title rather than resetting the whole app.
- If Netflix fails across multiple devices and networks, check Netflix’s connection and playback guidance and service information before reinstalling.
Hotels, schools, workplaces, cafés, and other managed or public networks may require a browser-based sign-in or block streaming video. If you are on one, complete any network sign-in page and test another connection. A VPN, proxy, custom DNS setting, or content filter can also interfere; temporarily turn it off only as a diagnostic test.
2. Force-close Netflix and restart the iPhone
Close the app
On an iPhone without a Home button, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause to open the App Switcher. Find Netflix, then swipe up on its preview. On an iPhone with a Home button, double-click the Home button and swipe up on the Netflix preview. Reopen Netflix and test it.

Restart the iPhone
- Press and hold the side button and either volume button until the power-off sliders appear.
- Drag the top slider and wait about 10 seconds after the iPhone turns off.
- Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
- Open Netflix and try again.
This is a sensible first fix for a frozen screen, endless loading, or a temporary playback problem. It clears a temporary state; it does not establish that Netflix itself was defective. Netflix’s iPhone playback instructions also recommend restarting the device for connection-related playback errors.
3. Update Netflix and iOS
Check for a Netflix update
- Open the App Store and tap Search.
- Search for Netflix.
- Tap Update if the button appears, then reopen the app after the update finishes.

Check for an iOS update
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- Install an available update if your iPhone is compatible. Keep the phone charged or connected to power during the update.
Apple’s app troubleshooting guidance advises updating the iPhone software if an app update is not available and the app still will not open or respond. App compatibility requirements can change: the U.S. App Store Netflix listing currently says the app requires iOS 18.0 or later, but check the live Netflix listing for the requirement that applies when you read this. If your iPhone cannot run the required iOS version, deleting and reinstalling Netflix will not make an incompatible version work.
4. Reset Netflix or sign out and back in
Try this when Netflix opens but will not load a profile, repeatedly returns to sign-in, or shows a data-related error. Before proceeding, make sure you know the email address and password for your Netflix account. Netflix warns that resetting the app signs you out and deletes downloads.
Use the in-app settings reset if it is available
- Open Settings, scroll to Apps, and tap Netflix.
- Turn on the Reset switch.
- Open Netflix and sign in again if prompted.
The exact settings labels can vary with iOS. If you do not see a Reset switch, use Netflix’s sign-out option instead of searching for an unrelated iPhone cache control. Netflix’s stuck-loading guidance describes the reset route.

Sign out and sign in again
In Netflix, open the account or help menu, choose Sign out, confirm, and then sign in again. If sign-in still fails, record the exact message or code before trying the next step.
5. Delete and reinstall Netflix
Use a reinstall if Netflix crashes, will not open, remains stuck after a restart, or still fails after a reset or sign-out. This is more disruptive than restarting: Netflix says uninstalling signs you out and deletes downloaded titles. Check Settings > General > iPhone Storage for available space, and confirm you have your sign-in details before starting.
- Touch and hold the Netflix icon.
- Tap Remove App, then Delete App, and confirm.
- Open the App Store, search for Netflix, and tap the download button.
- Open Netflix, sign in, and test playback. Download titles again if you need them offline.
Netflix’s instructions for Error 107 identify problematic data stored on the device as one possible cause and recommend reinstalling and restarting. Apple likewise lists deleting and redownloading an app as a next step if it continues to close unexpectedly or will not open. A reinstall cannot resolve a Netflix outage, unsupported iOS, blocked network, account issue, or incompatible display adapter.

6. Use the fix that matches the playback symptom
Only one title will not play
Try another title. If it plays normally, report the affected film or episode from Netflix’s Viewing Activity using Report a Problem, rather than resetting the app. Netflix explains this option in its video troubleshooting guidance.
Downloads fail or an offline title will not play
- Check available space in Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Delete the failed download and try downloading it again.
- Check for a Netflix update, then try streaming the title to distinguish a download problem from a playback or connection problem.
- If you reset or reinstall Netflix, expect existing downloads to be removed.
Black screen with sound
Force-close and reopen Netflix, restart the iPhone, and install available Netflix and iOS updates. If the picture is black only when connected to a television or monitor, skip to the adapter check below. Netflix’s black-screen guidance covers restarting the app and device.

Playback fails only on a television or monitor
If Netflix plays on the iPhone screen but not through a physical adapter, check the display path before reinstalling the app. For a Lightning video adapter, Netflix identifies model numbers A1438 and A1621 as supported in its guidance for Error 30103.

- Disconnect the cables.
- Connect the adapter to the iPhone or iPad.
- Open Settings > General > About > Apple HDMI Adapter and check the model number.
- If the adapter is supported, try another HDMI cable or port.
This adapter check applies only to users connecting through a physical video adapter. Netflix’s Error 30103 guidance explains the model check; the error can also occur outside an external-display setup.
7. Escalate based on where Netflix fails

Before contacting support, note the exact error text or code, when it appears, iPhone model, installed iOS version, Netflix app version if visible, whether the problem occurs on Wi-Fi or cellular, whether one or all titles are affected, and whether Netflix works on another device. Do not erase or reset the entire iPhone just because Netflix fails; the steps above isolate common causes without that broader disruption.

Error codes can have different causes depending on whether they appear at sign-in, during streaming or downloads, or on an external display. Keep the precise message and timing when you troubleshoot or contact support.
