The guide titled 60 Best New Rom-Coms and Romance Movies has since expanded. Rotten Tomatoes’ live version is titled 70 Best New Rom-Coms and Romance Movies and runs through #70, including films released in 2026. It is a Tomatometer ranking rather than a chronological list or a simple audience-popularity chart.
That distinction matters. The selection includes traditional romantic comedies alongside romance dramas, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, horror, and films about complicated relationships. The percentages below are a snapshot of the scores displayed on the current Rotten Tomatoes page; Tomatometer figures can change as more reviews are added.
How Rotten Tomatoes ranks the films
Rotten Tomatoes says the guide is ordered by Tomatometer score, with Certified Fresh films placed first. A high position therefore indicates strong aggregate reviews, not necessarily the film most viewers will find funniest, most romantic, or most accessible.
The list also combines theatrical releases and streaming titles from several countries. That gives it a wider range than a conventional studio rom-com roundup, but it means the entries do not all deliver the same viewing experience. Someone looking for a light date-night comedy may respond very differently to a relationship drama such as We Live in Time than to a more conventional comedy.

The highest-ranked entries
| Rank | Film | Year | Tomatometer on the current page |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pillion | 2025 | 99% |
| 2 | The Invite | 2026 | 97% |
| 3 | The Ballad of Wallis Island | 2025 | 97% |
| 4 | Música | 2024 | 96% |
| 5 | A Nice Indian Boy | 2024 | 95% |
| 6 | Love Lies Bleeding | 2024 | 94% |
| 7 | The Baltimorons | 2025 | 93% |
| 8 | Anora | 2024 | 93% |
| 9 | Touch | 2024 | 93% |
| 10 | Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy | 2025 | 88% |
These opening positions show how broad the guide has become. Love Lies Bleeding is an intense crime-tinged romance, while Anora and Touch approach love through very different dramatic lenses. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is the most recognizably mainstream romantic-comedy title in the top 10, but even it sits below several films that do not follow the classic meet-cute-and-happy-ending template.
Strong choices beyond the top 10
The ranking is more useful when treated as a menu rather than a verdict. Several notable entries offer distinct versions of romance:

- The Beast — 86%: a science-fiction romance, making it one of the clearest examples of the guide reaching beyond ordinary rom-com conventions.
- The Idea of You — 80%: a contemporary romance led by Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine.
- We Live in Time — 79%: a more emotionally serious relationship drama.
- Your Monster — 79%: a horror-rom-com hybrid.

Films for viewers who want something less conventional
Do not use the word “rom-com” too narrowly when browsing this list. The guide includes Babygirl, an erotic thriller; Heart Eyes, a horror-rom-com; and The Beast, a science-fiction romance. Love Lies Bleeding and Challengers are also driven by desire, power, and conflict more than by light comic misunderstandings.
That mixture is particularly useful for viewers who have exhausted predictable studio formulas. The list can function as a starting point for finding films about intimacy in unusual settings: professional rivalry, family pressure, genre danger, speculative futures, or relationships that resist a neat resolution.
Rank #3

Lower scores are not a watchlist ban
The bottom half includes several films with sharply mixed critical reactions. Current-page examples include:
| Film | Year | Tomatometer |
|---|---|---|
| Fly Me to the Moon | 2024 | 66% |
| Oh, Hi! | 2025 | 64% |
| The Gorge | 2025 | 62% |
| Sweethearts | 2024 | 62% |
| It Ends With Us | 2024 | 55% |
| Office Romance | 2026 | 48% |
| The Life List | 2025 | 46% |
| Picture This | 2025 | 44% |
| My Oxford Year | 2025 | 31% |
| Kinda Pregnant | 2025 | 27% |
A Tomatometer percentage measures the proportion of positive professional reviews; it does not assign a personal enjoyment score. A 60% film may be exactly the broad, uncomplicated streaming comedy one viewer wants, while a 90%-plus film may be too dark or experimental for that same evening. Use the score to identify critical consensus, then check the premise, rating, runtime, and availability before choosing.
Rank #4
- THIS TRENDS 24X36 STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH - ONE SHEET uses high-resolution artwork and is printed on premium FSC-Certified Gloss Poster Paper
- HIGH QUALITY ART PRINT is ready-to-frame or can be hung on the wall using poster mounts, clips, push pins, or thumb tacks
- OFFICIALLY LICENSED wall poster
- PERFECT SIZE for any room; poster is 24" x 36"
- EASILY DECORATE any space to create the perfect decor for a party, bedroom, bathroom, kids room, living room, office, dorm, and more
How to use the list without being misled by the title
- Read it as a 70-film guide. The live page is no longer a 60-film list.
- Separate genre from quality. A romance drama, erotic thriller, and horror-comedy should not be judged by exactly the same expectations.
- Check the current score. Rankings can move when Rotten Tomatoes adds reviews or changes its page.
- Choose by mood. Start with Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy or another conventional title for a lighter option; explore Challengers, Love Lies Bleeding, The Beast, or Your Monster for more unusual genre combinations.
- Verify where to watch. The guide mixes theatrical and streaming releases, so availability will vary by country and date.
FAQ

Rotten Tomatoes says the ranking is based on the Tomatometer, with Certified Fresh films placed first. It is not ordered by release date or audience popularity.

Are all 70 films conventional romantic comedies?
No. The guide includes romance dramas, thrillers, fantasy, science fiction, horror-rom-coms, and relationship-focused films, including titles such as Babygirl, The Beast, Challengers, and Heart Eyes.
Can the percentages change?
Yes. Tomatometer scores can change as additional reviews are counted. Treat the figures as a snapshot of the current page rather than permanent historical data.
The Bottom Line
Rotten Tomatoes’ current guide is best approached as a broad map of recent romance cinema, not a definitive list of 70 interchangeable rom-coms. Its top entries include highly reviewed conventional romances, but also films that use crime, sport, science fiction, horror, fantasy, and drama to examine intimacy. Start with the Tomatometer for a critical signal, then choose according to tone and genre.
