In a June 24, 2025 interview with British GQ, Lewis-Parry also described keeping a diary for the role and explained why he considers Samson’s intent in the train sequence unresolved.
What is Samson’s backstory?
Lewis-Parry developed a personal history for Samson in which he sacrificed himself to save other people and was then infected. The idea gives the Alpha a possible human past, but the interview does not establish it as an official explanation in the film. It is best understood as a performance choice: one way the actor approached the character, rather than a fact viewers are meant to treat as settled canon.

Lewis-Parry said he kept a diary for the role, recording the scenes and locations he filmed along with his feelings before, during and after wearing the costume. That process gave him a way to track his own experience of playing Samson; it does not provide a definitive account of the character’s life before infection.
What does the train scene mean?
Lewis-Parry said he and director Danny Boyle discussed the train scene on the day of filming because the moment was not in the script. They wanted a pause before the violence that could suggest a deeper connection between Samson and the other infected.

The actor has not given the scene a single fixed motive. As he put it, Samson’s intention could have been to kill the humans, or to retrieve the child. Lewis-Parry described that uncertainty as open to interpretation, so neither reading should be presented as confirmed fact.
What is known about Samson’s scars?
The British GQ interview discusses Lewis-Parry’s performance process, the costume and makeup, and the staging of the train sequence, but it does not give a developed explanation of Samson’s scars or establish a specific injury to the actor. The available account therefore does not support treating the visible marks as a documented medical history or claiming that Lewis-Parry sustained a particular on-set injury.

The interview does describe production details as Lewis-Parry recounted them: he sprinted toward stunt performer Dale White in a dark tunnel, and a lighter body prosthetic was used for the head-ripping stunt. Those details concern the filmed effect and performance, not proof that an actor’s real injury became one of Samson’s scars.
Why was Samson’s nudity created with prosthetics?
In an interview with ComicBook.com, director Danny Boyle said the production used false, photo-real genital prosthetics when a child performer was present. He described this as an explanation from the production’s intimacy coordinator and gave a legal rationale. That rationale is Boyle’s account as quoted by ComicBook.com; it should not be treated here as an independently verified statement of law.

Lewis-Parry also joked to British GQ that the prominent prosthetic was “a byproduct of Samson.” The comment refers to the character’s appearance and the prosthetic used in the film, rather than to the actor’s body.

Sony Pictures Japan lists a Japanese 4K UHD and Blu-ray release, and Happinet announced Japanese 4K UHD + Blu-ray and Blu-ray + DVD sets for November 19, 2025.
