Mahito has no official “top 25” ranking. This is an editorial selection of memorable lines chosen for character insight, scene importance, delivery, or their role in his conflict with Yuji Itadori. English wording can differ between the licensed manga, anime subtitles, and dub, so check the edition you use before treating any line as a verbatim quotation. Mahito is listed among the series’ characters on the official anime character page; VIZ describes Jujutsu Kaisen as Gege Akutami’s story of cursed spirits and jujutsu sorcerers.
Mahito’s worldview: the soul comes first
These early lines establish Mahito’s central belief: the body follows the soul, morality is conditional, and human life has no sacred status for him.
1. “The soul comes before the body.”
Mahito explains his technique while discussing the shape of the soul. The line is important because it turns his philosophy into a combat principle: changing the soul changes the person.
2. “The body is merely a reflection of the soul.”
Addressed to opponents who assume physical damage is the whole story, this idea explains why his attacks are so disturbing and why ordinary healing cannot undo them.

3. “People are born from the hatred humans have for one another.”
Mahito’s existence embodies the resentment and fear that generate curses. He presents cruelty not as an exception, but as part of what humanity produces.
4. “Humans are just animals that happen to think.”
This reduction of humanity strips away dignity and prepares the ground for Mahito’s experiments on people such as Junpei Yoshino.
5. “There is no true value in a human life.”
In the Junpei storyline, Mahito treats life as material rather than something with inherent worth. The claim is less a proven fact than the excuse that lets him act without remorse.
6. “I do what I feel like doing.”
Mahito’s impulsiveness is part of his danger. Unlike a villain pursuing a consistent political program, he treats curiosity and amusement as sufficient reasons to hurt someone.
7. “I’m only being true to myself.”
He uses this kind of self-justification when challenged about his actions. It shows how completely he separates authenticity from responsibility.

8. “Humans and curses are the same in that regard.”
Mahito argues that both sides follow instinct. The comparison reveals his attempt to erase the moral distinction Yuji insists on preserving.
Mahito and Junpei: manipulation disguised as friendship
Mahito’s conversations with Junpei are memorable because he offers warmth and recognition while quietly steering Junpei toward hatred.
9. “You and I are alike.”
Mahito tells Junpei that they share alienation from ordinary people. The apparent connection is a trap: Mahito turns Junpei’s loneliness into a reason to distrust everyone else.
10. “People hurt each other because that is what people do.”
After Junpei’s experiences with bullying, Mahito presents violence as inevitable. The line validates Junpei’s anger while removing any possibility of forgiveness or change.
11. “You can hate them.”
Rather than helping Junpei process what happened, Mahito encourages retaliation. His kindness is therefore instrumental, designed to make Junpei useful to him.

12. “The soul has a shape.”
Mahito’s explanation sounds almost educational when he introduces Junpei to jujutsu. Its calm tone makes the later transformation of that knowledge especially cruel.
13. “Idle Transfiguration changes the soul.”
This concise description of his cursed technique connects his theory to the physical horror on screen. A person’s altered body is, in Mahito’s view, simply the visible result of altering the soul.

Mahito’s reassuring language is deliberately grotesque. He borrows the tone of a caretaker while treating another person’s suffering as an experiment.
Mahito versus Yuji: two incompatible truths
Yuji is Mahito’s natural opposite. Both learn through direct contact with death, but Yuji accepts responsibility while Mahito embraces instinct.
15. “You are just like me.”
Mahito tells Yuji that they are alike because both kill curses or humans according to their nature. Yuji rejects the comparison because his actions are tied to protecting others, not personal amusement.

He has made deals with Itadori to help him overcome challenges, but took Yuji's body hostage by taking out his heart and forcing him to make a binding vow. Sukuna is the main antagonist in the show and a real challenge to everyone who faces him, including Yuji who is trying to hold onto control of his body

16. “I am you.”
This deliberately provocative formulation collapses the boundary between hero and curse. It is one of Mahito’s sharpest attempts to make Yuji doubt the meaning of his own choices.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

By the Shibuya conflict, Mahito no longer treats Yuji as a curiosity. Their opposition has become a structural conflict between Mahito’s nihilism and Yuji’s resolve.
18. “You are the same as me, only on the other side.”
Mahito reframes the battle as two beings following instinct. The line is memorable because it sounds philosophically plausible while ignoring the moral consequences of his actions.
19. “I will kill you.”
Mahito’s blunt threat matters because his usual playfulness disappears. Faced with Yuji’s persistence, he reveals fear and genuine hostility beneath the experiments and laughter.
20. “I’m having fun.”
Mahito often describes combat as play. The casual wording underlines the asymmetry between his enjoyment and the permanent trauma inflicted on his victims.

21. “This is the real me.”
When Mahito reveals a more advanced form, he treats transformation as self-discovery. The moment shows that his identity is fluid, but his appetite for conflict remains constant.
22. “I have no regrets.”
Mahito’s refusal of remorse is the opposite of Yuji’s burdened conscience. The contrast gives their confrontations emotional force beyond the exchange of techniques.

His final exchanges are compelling because the confident teacher and tormentor becomes a frightened creature trying to survive.
23. “I don’t want to die.”
The admission punctures Mahito’s earlier claims that life has no inherent value. When death approaches him, self-preservation becomes immediate and absolute.

Mahito’s plea reverses the power dynamic he created with Junpei and his other victims. The curse who treated people as objects now asks another being to recognize his own life.
25. “I am the real curse.”
Mahito’s final self-recognition is a fitting endpoint: he stops pretending to be a detached observer of human nature and confronts the identity he has chosen. Yuji’s pursuit gives the line its force.
Quick Recap
How to verify the wording in your edition
- Choose one source version: the VIZ English manga, the anime’s official subtitles, or the English dub.
- Check each line against the actual chapter or episode rather than relying on a quotation list. The Mahito reference page is useful for locating scenes, but it is a secondary compilation.
- Preserve that version’s wording and punctuation; do not combine manga, subtitle, and dub translations into a single quotation.
- Use the VIZ manga listings and its series page for licensed source material and official series guides.
