Yes, you can watch some live sports online for free—but no legitimate site reliably carries every major game. Free coverage is scattered across ad-supported streaming channels, official league and event streams, and occasional free broadcasts. The key is to check whether a listing is actually the live event, rather than a replay, highlight show, or sports-news channel.
This guide is for U.S. viewers and defines “free” as no recurring subscription. Some services show ads; some events require a free account; and availability can depend on your location, device, and the event’s rights. A free trial of a paid service is a separate option, not permanently free access.

The number of channels on a service is not a measure of how many live games it carries. A channel may be devoted to a sport or league while showing analysis, highlights, or archival programming instead of the game underway.

This is a usefulness-based directory, not a ranking of guaranteed game coverage. “Live” means the event itself is being shown live; sports news, live updates, replays, and highlights are identified separately. Confirm the current event listing before settling in, since rights and schedules change.

1. Tubi — best general-purpose free streamer
Tubi is an ad-supported streaming service. Its help center describes the service as free and legal and says a credit card is not required. Its live-channel lineup and sports offerings can vary by country and over time, so search the guide for the specific event rather than assuming a sport-themed listing is a game stream. 2. Pluto TV — best for always-on sports channels
Pluto TV offers sports-branded channels and programming, including NFL Channel and CBS Sports Golazo Network. A branded channel may show news, replays, or studio coverage rather than live games. Check the individual program and start time in Pluto’s guide. Pluto TV sports programming.
3. The Roku Channel — best free channel guide
The Roku Channel offers live streaming channels and is not limited to Roku hardware; browser and app availability depend on location and device. Roku says its channel service includes more than 350 live TV channels, with availability varying. 4. Xumo Play — best for occasional free event simulcasts
Xumo Play carries free ad-supported channels and may host particular event windows. For example, Xumo’s guide to the 2026 FIFA World Cup said two opening matches would be available free in Spanish on Xumo Play without a subscription or login, while the full tournament was available through Peacock. 5. Plex — best for discovering niche channels
Plex aggregates free live-TV channels, including niche programming. Use Plex’s current guide to check whether a sports channel is available in your territory and whether it is accessible in a browser or requires the app. Channel availability and account requirements can vary; do not assume a channel name means it has a live event on now.

6. Fubo Sports Network — best free network for niche live events
Fubo Sports Network is a free, ad-supported network with live sports and original programming, including niche competitions and sports-related shows. Its operator lists distribution through services including Tubi, The Roku Channel, Plex, Xumo Play, and Sling Freestream. 7. FIFA+ — best for selected international soccer
FIFA+ has offered free live matches from competitions around the world, along with archives and other soccer programming. Which matches are available depends on territory and rights; it is not a free pass to every major league or tournament. FIFA announced a free-to-view FIFA+ distribution arrangement through DAZN in June 2026, so check the official FIFA+ or DAZN listing for the match and country you care about. Golazo Network is a free soccer-focused channel available through outlets including the CBS Sports app, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Plex, and CBSSports.com. It is primarily news and studio programming; check the listing before treating it as a live match stream. Some other CBS sports events may require a TV-provider login or paid access. 9. NFL Channel — best for free NFL coverage, not live games
NFL Channel carries NFL-related shows, highlights, replays, and live game-day information. It does not carry live NFL games, according to the NFL’s own channel page. Use it for coverage around the game, not to watch the game itself. NFL Channel.
10. beIN Sports Xtra — best for selected international sports
beIN Sports Xtra is a free channel distinct from the broader paid beIN Sports service. It may carry selected soccer, motorsports, combat sports, and sports-news programming through participating platforms; availability and schedule depend on the host service. Fubo’s channel directory lists beIN Sports Xtra and beIN Sports Xtra en Español among channels available through its free offering, subject to platform and package conditions. 11. Stadium — best for college-sports news and selected events
Stadium covers college sports with news, analysis, and replays, and may carry selected live events. Its event inventory changes, so check Stadium’s current schedule for the specific game. A channel or brand focused on college sports does not mean it streams every NCAA matchup.

12. ACC Digital Network — best for ACC-focused programming
The ACC Digital Network is a conference-focused source for highlights, interviews, documentaries, and selected digital programming. Fubo’s directory lists it among channels available through Fubo Free, but its live-event inventory varies by sport, season, and distribution platform. 13. NCAA.com — best for championship information and selected college events
NCAA.com is a useful official starting point for championship schedules, news, highlights, and selected live events. Which competitions stream there for free depends on the sport and event. Check the specific championship page; NCAA.com should not be treated as a live stream for every college game.
14. Red Bull TV — best for action sports and selected events
Red Bull TV is worth checking for action sports such as mountain biking, snowboarding, surfing, climbing, and motorsports, including selected live events. Coverage is seasonal and event-specific. Verify that the event is listed as live and available in the United States before relying on it.
15. Official Formula 1 channels — best for highlights and analysis
Formula 1’s official channels and F1 TV pages are useful for highlights, previews, post-race analysis, and other selected content. Do not expect free access to every Grand Prix live: full race coverage is generally a paid-rights product in many territories, and any free practice or promotional stream must be confirmed for the particular event.

16. World Aquatics — best official source for aquatic sports
World Aquatics covers swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, and related disciplines. Its “where to watch” information says events not covered by national rights-holding broadcasters may be viewable on its website; U.S. coverage can instead involve NBC Sports, Peacock, or USA Team TV. 17. Official team and league websites — best for local and lower-division events
Team, league, and tournament websites sometimes stream minor-league games, preseason contests, press conferences, or lower-division competitions free. This can be a strong option for a specific local team, but rights vary by event, market, and season. Start at the team’s official schedule or “watch” page and confirm that the listing is a live video stream rather than audio, highlights, or a paid partner link.
18. Official sports YouTube channels — best for selected events and highlights
Leagues, broadcasters, teams, and event organizers sometimes stream selected games, qualifiers, press conferences, and international competitions on their verified YouTube channels. YouTube itself is only a platform: a search result labeled “live” is not proof that a stream is authorized. Follow the channel linked by the rights holder and verify the event listing.
19. Local broadcaster sites and network apps — best when a local stream is offered
Local affiliates and broadcaster apps may offer local news or selected network sports, but a live event stream can require authentication through a participating TV provider. ESPN says live ESPN network content generally requires authentication through an affiliated TV or internet provider, illustrating why an app being free to install does not make its live content free to watch. 20. Official tournament and federation sites — best for niche and international competitions
Governing bodies and tournament organizers sometimes stream competitions that receive little coverage from national broadcasters. Look for an event’s official “where to watch” or live-video page, then confirm country availability, account requirements, and whether any fee applies. The official rights holder is a more reliable starting point than an aggregator of unknown origin.

How to find out whether a specific game is free
- Identify the event precisely. Note the sport, league, teams or competitors, date, start time, and your country.
- Open the official league, team, or tournament schedule. Use its “where to watch” listing if available.
- Read the format label. Confirm it says live video; distinguish that from a replay, highlights, studio show, live scores, or radio/audio.
- Check the access terms for that event. Determine whether it needs no account, a free account, a TV-provider login, or a paid subscription.
- Confirm regional availability and device support. A stream may be listed but unavailable in your country or on your particular app or browser.
- Open the official app or site directly. Avoid search-result mirrors and unofficial link pages.
What to do if the game is not free
Do not assume there is a legitimate free stream just because a search result promises one. For U.S. viewers, an indoor or outdoor over-the-air antenna can receive local network broadcasts without a monthly subscription, where reception and the broadcaster’s schedule allow. Roku’s live guide can combine antenna channels with free streaming channels when used with compatible equipment. It will not provide out-of-market games or channels that are not broadcast locally. Other lawful options include checking whether the rights holder offers an actual free trial, considering a short-term rather than annual paid subscription, using official radio or live-score coverage, or watching at a sports bar or public viewing venue. A trial is temporary—not a permanently free stream—and may require payment details or renew automatically, so read its current terms before signing up. Paid live-TV packages and league subscriptions should be treated as paid fallbacks, not included in a list of free sites.
How to recognize an unsafe or unauthorized stream
Use official league, team, broadcaster, tournament, or recognized ad-supported service sites. Live-sports piracy is a continuing industry problem, and sports rights are divided among broadcasters and streaming platforms. The U.S. Trade Representative’s 2025 Notorious Markets List discusses piracy concerns; the FCC’s discussion of sports video distribution reflects the increasingly fragmented rights landscape.
- Leave pages that demand browser notification permission to unlock a stream.
- Do not install an unfamiliar player, executable, browser extension, or IPTV playlist to watch a game.
- Close pages that trigger repeated redirects, fake virus warnings, or aggressive pop-ups.
- Do not enter card details into a page that claims to offer permanent free access without clearly identifying the operator and terms.
- Do not rely on mirror domains or a VPN as a way to bypass a broadcaster’s geographic or subscription restrictions; rights and service terms vary by territory.
An established service is not a guarantee that every advertisement is harmless, but a transparent operator and an official app or website are better signs than an anonymous stream page.
When a legitimate stream will not play
- Refresh the official schedule and confirm the event has started; it may have been delayed or moved.
- Check whether the event is on a different channel or platform than the related studio coverage.
- Try the service’s official app if its browser player fails, and confirm your device and browser are supported.
- Disable extensions that may interfere with playback, then reload the official page.
- Check whether the event is blocked in your region or requires a provider login.

- Never follow a prompt to install an unofficial player as a workaround.
Why free sports coverage is fragmented
Sports rights can be split among broadcast networks, cable channels, streaming services, leagues, and event organizers. That is why an official free channel may have highlights or analysis while a particular live game is carried elsewhere. Hulu’s live-TV sports lineup, for example, includes networks such as CBS, ESPN, FOX, FS1, NFL Network, ABC, BTN, ACC Network, and SEC Network, illustrating the breadth of channels involved in sports coverage; it is a paid service, not a free source. For the same reason, ESPN being available as an app does not make all ESPN network streams free: ESPN says live network access generally requires authentication through an affiliated TV or internet provider.
