2 Best Sites to Trim & Crop YouTube Videos (2026 Guide)

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

VEED is the easiest choice for quickly trimming, cropping, and resizing an authorized video in a browser. Kapwing is stronger when you are turning one long video into several clips, especially with transcript-based editing.

Use either service only for footage you own or are licensed to edit. A public YouTube URL is not permission to download or republish a video. If the video is already on your own channel and you only need to remove time from it, YouTube Studio may be faster and preserves the existing upload.

Trim, cut, crop and resize are different jobs

  • Trim: removes footage from the beginning or end.
  • Cut or split: removes a section in the middle or divides a clip into segments.
  • Crop: removes part of the visible picture inside the frame.
  • Resize or reformat: changes the output canvas, such as 16:9 landscape to 9:16 vertical. The image may be cropped, repositioned, or surrounded by borders.

That distinction matters when making a Short, hiding black bars, removing a distraction, or extracting a short segment from a long upload.

1. VEED — best for quick trimming, cropping and social formats

VEED’s YouTube cropper and YouTube cutter are aimed at straightforward browser edits. VEED’s general crop tool includes frame handles and canvas presets for YouTube 16:9, square 1:1 and vertical 9:16 output.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What VEED does well

  • Drag the timeline edges to remove opening or closing footage.
  • Place the playhead and choose Split to remove a middle section.
  • Drag the frame corners to crop unwanted areas.
  • Choose a platform preset, then reposition the image so faces, titles and screen content stay visible.
  • Preview the complete edit and export from the browser.

VEED workflow

  1. Open the YouTube cropper or online video editor.
  2. Upload the original MP4, MOV or another supported file. Use URL import only when the feature accepts that authorized video; VEED’s YouTube pages present URL support inconsistently.
  3. Put the clip on the timeline and drag its left or right edge to trim the start or finish.
  4. For a middle cut, move the playhead, select Split, delete the unwanted segment and close the gap.
  5. Select the video frame and drag its handles, or choose a canvas preset such as 1:1 or 9:16.
  6. Reposition the crop and watch the entire clip, including the first and last seconds.
  7. Select Export and download the rendered file.

Free-plan and privacy notes

VEED advertises free browser editing, but exports made while logged out or on a free account carry a VEED.IO watermark, according to its watermark help page. Lite, Pro and Enterprise exports are described as watermark-free. Exact paid prices and limits should be checked on VEED’s pricing page; no current dollar amount is established here. If you upgrade after exporting, you must re-export the project from the paid workspace to remove the watermark (VEED support).

VEED processes uploads online. Its Terms of Use include a broad service license and additional free-tier language about improving applications and associated AI systems. Review the current terms before uploading confidential or client footage.

Best VEED use case

Choose VEED when the job is mainly a clean trim, a crop, or a fast conversion from landscape footage to a square or vertical social clip.

2. Kapwing — best for repurposing and transcript-based cuts

Kapwing’s YouTube trimmer accepts an uploaded file and advertises importing an authorized YouTube URL. Its editor supports timeline cuts, resizing for multiple platforms and transcript-based editing. The broader Kapwing video editor also promotes captions and collaboration.

What Kapwing adds

  • Trim the ends or split at any point; the trimmer documents the S keyboard shortcut for splitting.
  • Generate a transcript and delete spoken sections to remove their corresponding video, then inspect the timeline for errors.
  • Resize for YouTube Shorts, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, square or landscape formats.
  • Cut and rearrange sections when one source video must become several deliverables.

Kapwing workflow

  1. Open the YouTube trimmer.
  2. Upload the original file or paste an authorized YouTube URL. Kapwing lists formats including MP4, MOV and MKV.
  3. Drag the clip ends to trim the beginning or end.
  4. Place the playhead and use the split control (or press S), then delete the unwanted section.
  5. For speech-heavy material, generate a transcript and remove text corresponding to sections you do not want. Check every resulting cut manually.
  6. Use resize or crop controls for 16:9, 1:1 or 9:16 output, keeping faces, logos, slides and captions inside the new frame.
  7. Add captions or titles only if needed, choose Export Project, and download the file.

Free-plan and subscription notes

Kapwing’s current comparison lists a $0 Free plan with one-minute exports, a watermark, 720p output and a 2 GB maximum file size; the same page lists a 30-minute monthly export limit. Plan details can change, so verify the live pricing page. Prices shown there in August 2026 were $24 per member monthly or $16 per member monthly when billed annually for Pro, and $64 monthly or $50 annually for Business. These are recurring subscriptions, not one-time purchases.

The pricing comparison lists Pro exports up to two hours and 4K, while Kapwing’s support material uses different resolution wording in some contexts. Treat the live plan comparison as authoritative at checkout. Free projects are not a dependable archive: Kapwing says free projects may be deleted after three days (FAQ).

Best Kapwing use case

Choose Kapwing when a long authorized recording must become several clips, when transcript editing will save timeline work, or when captions, resizing and collaboration are part of the same project.

Use YouTube Studio instead when you own the upload

If the video is already on your channel and you only need to remove material from the start, middle or end, YouTube Studio’s editor may be the simplest option. YouTube says its documented trimming feature supports videos under six hours and keeps the original URL, view count and comments, so no new upload is required.

Studio is not a general crop-and-reframe tool. It will not replace VEED or Kapwing when you need to change the visible frame, create a vertical composition, add captions or export derivative clips. YouTube also says that since June 2025 saved Studio edits cannot be undone with Revert to original; preserve the source file before saving.

Choose the right workflow

  • Only remove time from your own published video: use YouTube Studio.
  • Crop borders, reframe a speaker or make a Short quickly: use VEED.
  • Create several clips or cut by spoken words: use Kapwing.
  • Need a clean export: check paid plans before editing, because both free workflows watermark exports.
  • Editing sensitive footage: review each service’s terms and consider a local editor instead of uploading to the cloud.

Common problems and fixes

A YouTube URL will not import

Private, age-restricted, removed, region-blocked or otherwise inaccessible videos may fail, and URL formats supported today may change. Use the original MP4, MOV or other source file when possible. Do not bypass access controls.

A vertical crop cuts off the subject

Preview the whole clip, reposition the frame and check titles, faces, slides and logos. If the full landscape image must remain visible, use a wider canvas with blurred or colored side panels instead of forcing a tight 9:16 crop.

The export looks blurry

Start with the highest-quality authorized source, avoid enlarging a small crop to fill a large canvas, and export once after all edits. Export resolution cannot restore detail that was absent from the source, and cloud rendering may recompress the file.

A middle cut sounds abrupt

Review several seconds on both sides of every cut. Remove partial words, check for lighting or camera jumps, and add a short audio fade only when it improves continuity.

The free export has a watermark

VEED free or logged-out exports carry a VEED.IO watermark (VEED support); Kapwing Free exports carry a Kapwing watermark (Kapwing policy). Upgrade before exporting or use YouTube Studio for eligible edits to your own upload.

Copyright, permissions and file safety

Only download, upload or edit videos you created, were commissioned to handle, or are otherwise authorized to use. Authorization can come from a license, public-domain status or another applicable legal permission; a public URL alone is not enough. VEED’s terms and Kapwing’s Terms of Service require users to have rights to submitted content and to comply with YouTube’s Terms of Service.

Keep an untouched original locally. Importing a URL can be convenient, but the original file is more reliable and avoids another generation of platform compression. Neither service should be treated as permanent storage for important work.
