1. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story
19.5 million views · 153.8 million hours viewed
The clear No. 1 show was Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, a nine-episode scripted true-crime drama created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The series examines the 1989 murders of José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez and the competing explanations surrounding the brothers’ crime and subsequent trials.
Javier Bardem, Chloë Sevigny, Cooper Koch, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez are among the principal cast. Netflix’s own discussion of the ending emphasizes that the drama approaches the case through multiple perspectives rather than presenting its central moral question as simple or conclusively settled. Netflix Tudum’s analysis of the series provides additional context.
Its lead was substantial: the series recorded nearly twice as many views as the No. 2 entry and more hours viewed than the other nine chart entries combined individually. Because it is a long, nine-episode drama, both its audience size and total viewing time were especially large.
2. Nobody Wants This: Season 1
10.3 million views · 45.7 million hours viewed
Nobody Wants This placed second with its first season, starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. The Netflix chart identifies the entry specifically as Season 1, rather than treating the title as an undifferentiated series listing.

The romantic-comedy format also gave the chart a lighter counterpoint to the true-crime drama, mystery series, documentaries, and returning thriller seasons elsewhere in the Top 10.
3. The Perfect Couple: Season 1
6.0 million views · 30.7 million hours viewed
The first season of The Perfect Couple ranked third globally. It is a six-episode mystery-drama limited series based on Elin Hilderbrand’s novel.
The title’s 6 million views placed it well behind Nobody Wants This but still ahead of every entry below it. Its 30.7 million hours viewed also shows how a shorter limited series can accumulate considerable total viewing time when a large audience watches several episodes.

4. Mr. McMahon: Limited Series
4.9 million views · 28.2 million hours viewed
Mr. McMahon was the highest-ranked documentary title on this particular chart. The two-episode limited documentary series focuses on Vince McMahon and the WWE business empire.

Netflix classifies it as a limited series, not as a conventional returning show. That distinction matters when comparing it with nine-episode scripted dramas: its 4.9 million views came from only two episodes, while the reported 28.2 million hours reflect a much shorter overall format than the chart’s largest dramas.
5. Emily in Paris: Season 4
4.2 million views · 25.1 million hours viewed
Emily in Paris Season 4 ranked fifth, with Lily Collins returning as Emily Cooper. Netflix counts this as a season-specific entry, so the figures describe Season 4 rather than the complete lifetime performance of the series.
The season’s 4.2 million views placed it below Mr. McMahon, while its 25.1 million hours viewed put it close to the documentary limited series in total watching time.
6. The Resident: Season 1
3.3 million views · 33.8 million hours viewed
The Resident Season 1 ranked sixth by views but generated 33.8 million hours viewed—more than both Emily in Paris Season 4 and The Perfect Couple, despite having fewer views than either.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThis is one of the clearest examples of why Netflix’s views and hours viewed should not be treated as interchangeable. A longer season can produce more total hours even when fewer people begin or complete a viewing session. Netflix orders the weekly chart by its views metric, not simply by accumulated hours.
7. Prison Break: Season 1
2.8 million views · 45.1 million hours viewed
The first season of the serialized prison-escape thriller reached No. 7. Its 45.1 million hours viewed were almost as high as the No. 2 title’s 45.7 million, even though Nobody Wants This had more than three times as many reported views.

The contrast is largely a format and catalog effect: Prison Break Season 1 is a substantial older-season binge, while Netflix’s “view” calculation and ranking treatment do not simply equal total hours divided by a common runtime.
8. Prison Break: Season 2
2.4 million views · 38.4 million hours viewed
Season 2 followed immediately at No. 8. Netflix did not combine it with Season 1 or the later seasons; it received its own chart position and its own viewing totals.
The consecutive appearances suggest a substantial catalog-viewing cycle for Prison Break. Viewers who discovered or revisited the series could generate separate entries as they moved through its seasons.
9. Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval
2.4 million views · 2.8 million hours viewed
Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval was the only stand-up comedy special in the Top 10. It recorded the same rounded view total as Prison Break: Season 2 but ranked lower because the exact underlying figures determine placement.
The special’s 1-hour-11-minute runtime helps explain its much smaller hours-viewed total. With 2.4 million views and 2.8 million hours viewed, it naturally accumulated far fewer total hours than the longer scripted seasons and limited series.
10. Prison Break: Season 3
2.1 million views · 20.0 million hours viewed
The third season of Prison Break completed the series’ three appearances in the chart, ranking No. 10. Seasons 1, 2, and 3 therefore occupied three separate places rather than one combined Prison Break position.
Across the three listed seasons, Prison Break accounted for 7.3 million reported views and 103.5 million hours viewed when the separate Netflix entries are added together. That combined calculation is useful for understanding the revival’s scale, but it should not replace the individual rankings in the official chart.

What Netflix’s ranking means
It is a weekly global chart
The data covers September 23–29, 2024, the weekly period that contains September 27. It does not show what viewers watched on September 27 alone. Netflix’s official page labels the geography as Global and the category as Shows | English.
It is not the U.S. ranking
Netflix also publishes country-specific charts. This list should not be described as the U.S. Top 10 unless the separate U.S. data is being used. Regional availability and rankings can differ, and Netflix notes that some titles may not be available in every country.
Netflix separates seasons and specials
The chart measures the entries Netflix presents. A season can appear as its own title, as with Emily in Paris: Season 4 and The Resident: Season 1. A special can also appear separately, as with For Your Approval. The three Prison Break entries demonstrate why a single franchise may occupy multiple chart positions.

Views and hours viewed answer different questions
Views are the primary ordering metric shown in Netflix’s weekly table. Hours viewed provide additional context about the total amount of time spent watching. They are strongly affected by runtime, episode count, and whether a title is a short special, a limited series, a single season, or a long catalog drama.
For example, The Resident: Season 1 ranked below The Perfect Couple: Season 1 by views but had more reported hours viewed. Prison Break: Season 1 had 45.1 million hours viewed—nearly the total for No. 2 Nobody Wants This—despite recording fewer views. These comparisons are not contradictions; they illustrate the difference between the two measurements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to watch if you prefer documentaries
For documentary viewers, Mr. McMahon: Limited Series is the most directly relevant title in this week’s list. It is a two-episode documentary about Vince McMahon and the WWE business empire, and it ranked No. 4 globally among English-language shows.
The chart itself also shows how documentary viewing competes with different kinds of Netflix programming. The top positions went to a scripted true-crime drama and a romantic comedy, while a mystery limited series, a medical drama, a comedy special, and a returning catalog thriller filled out the rest. The ranking measures viewing activity, not whether one format is more authoritative, critically acclaimed, or culturally important than another.

Bottom line
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story was Netflix’s most-viewed global English-language show for the week of September 23–29, 2024, with 19.5 million views. Nobody Wants This and The Perfect Couple followed, while Mr. McMahon was the highest-ranked documentary. The unusual shape of the list comes from Netflix counting seasons and specials separately, which allowed three different Prison Break seasons to appear in the same Top 10.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Netflix chart does this list represent?
This list is Netflix’s global English-language weekly Top 10 for September 23–29, 2024—the reporting period that includes September 27. It is not a daily ranking, a U.S.-only chart, an all-time list, or a ranking of quality.
Why does Prison Break appear three times?
Netflix counts seasons and specials as separate chart entries. That is why Prison Break: Season 1, Season 2, and Season 3 appear at Nos. 7, 8, and 10 instead of being combined into one listing.
Why do views and hours viewed produce different comparisons?
Views are Netflix’s primary weekly ranking metric, while hours viewed show the total reported time watched. Longer seasons and multi-episode dramas can accumulate more hours even when they have fewer views than shorter or more widely sampled titles.
