Rumi is the strongest choice for the film’s best character: her struggle to accept her half-demon identity connects the action to the story’s central themes of shame, belonging, and self-acceptance. This is an editorial ranking, not an official or measured fan consensus. It weighs each character’s importance to the story, development, distinctiveness, and emotional or comic contribution.
The film follows HUNTR/X—Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—pop stars who secretly hunt demons. Their rivals, the Saja Boys, threaten the Honmoon, the barrier protecting the human world. Here are ten characters ranked by how much they add to that story.
Who are the main characters in KPop Demon Hunters?
Rumi, Mira, and Zoey are the members of HUNTR/X, a K-pop group with a second life as demon hunters. Their battle against the Saja Boys is also a struggle to protect the Honmoon. The ranking below gives greatest weight to characters whose choices and relationships shape that conflict.
The 10 best KPop Demon Hunters characters, ranked
1. Rumi
As HUNTR/X’s leader and singer, Rumi has the clearest personal stake in the film’s supernatural conflict. Her half-demon ancestry is a secret she has learned to treat as shameful, and that shame threatens the voice that gives her purpose. In Netflix’s Rumi character guide, she describes the cost of hiding: “I spent my whole life keeping this secret, this shame of what I am, and the more I had the shame, the more it grew and grew until it started to destroy the one thing that gave me a purpose: my voice.” That tension makes her more than a capable hero: her growth is bound to the film’s ideas about identity and acceptance.

2. Jinu
Jinu is the leader and lead singer of the Saja Boys, but his history gives him more dimension than a straightforward rival. Netflix’s biography of Jinu says he was human in Joseon-era Korea before selling his soul to Gwi-Ma for fame and fortune. His evolving connection with Rumi brings the opposing sides of the story into personal contact, making him the most compelling antagonist in this ranking.
3. Mira
Mira is one of the three HUNTR/X members, and her place in the group matters because the film’s stakes are shared: Rumi’s secret and the demon threat unfold within a team whose loyalty is essential. She brings a distinct presence to the trio rather than functioning as an extension of its leader. The official cast guide identifies her as a member of HUNTR/X alongside Rumi and Zoey.
Rank #2

4. Zoey
Zoey completes HUNTR/X’s central trio. Her importance comes from the friendship and teamwork that make the group more than a set of performers or fighters: the trust among its members gives the story’s conflict an intimate cost. She earns a place near the top because the film’s emotional center depends on the bond between the three hunters, not only on Rumi’s individual arc. Netflix’s cast guide lists Zoey as one of the group’s three members.
5. Gwi-Ma
Gwi-Ma is the demonic power behind the threat to the human world. The Saja Boys’ effort to take HUNTR/X’s fans is not just a competition for popularity: it weakens the Honmoon, the barrier that keeps demons from reaching people. That larger purpose gives Gwi-Ma weight even when the story’s more personal conflicts belong to Rumi and Jinu. Netflix’s lore guide explains the Honmoon and its role in the conflict.

6. Celine
Celine is a former hunter who trained Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. That mentor role connects HUNTR/X’s present-day double life to the knowledge and discipline that came before them. She matters most as part of the trio’s foundation: the girls do not enter the danger as ordinary pop stars with no preparation. Netflix’s cast guide identifies Celine as their former hunter mentor.
7. The Saja Boys
The Saja Boys work as a rival group as well as an instrument of the larger demonic plot. Their attempt to draw fans away from HUNTR/X threatens the Honmoon, tying celebrity rivalry to the film’s supernatural stakes. They are less individually developed than Jinu, who ranks higher on his own, but the group makes the threat to HUNTR/X immediate and visible. The Netflix lore guide outlines how stealing fans weakens the barrier.

8. HUNTR/X as a team
HUNTR/X deserves a place apart from its members because the group’s pop-star identity and hunter mission are inseparable. Their fans are part of the story’s supernatural stakes: losing that support helps weaken the Honmoon. The team also gives the film a framework for friendship, shared responsibility, and the strain of keeping a secret life. Sony’s official film page describes the trio’s double life as performers and demon hunters.
9. The HUNTR/X fans
The fans are not merely background to the music performances. Their devotion has consequences within the plot, because the Saja Boys’ attempt to win them over is part of the plan to weaken the Honmoon. That turns the audience around HUNTR/X into a meaningful part of the film’s world: fandom can be joyful, but here it also becomes a line of defense.

10. The demon threat
The demons function as the danger HUNTR/X must confront, giving the heroes’ hidden work its urgency. Their place on this list is less about individual character development than about what they make possible: a story where a glittering pop career and a fight to protect the human world share the same stage. The film’s lore frames the conflict around demons seeking access through the weakened Honmoon, as explained in Netflix’s guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why Rumi ranks first
Rumi sits at the intersection of the film’s action, relationships, and themes. Her secret connects the demon conflict to a personal question—whether she can accept what she is without letting shame silence her. Jinu gives that struggle a charged counterpart, while Mira and Zoey make HUNTR/X’s friendship consequential. That combination makes Rumi the most complete character in this editorial ranking.
