Big Show is not André the Giant’s son. The belief comes from a WCW storyline: when Paul Wight debuted as The Giant in 1995, the promotion billed his character as André’s son. Wight later explained that wrestling used fictional family ties to give new performers a sense of legacy and credibility.
Was Big Show really André the Giant’s son?
No. Big Show is the ring name of Paul Wight, and the father-son relationship was part of his wrestling character, not his real family history. Wight said his own father was a mechanic.
André’s official biography identifies him as André René Roussimoff and names his parents as Boris and Marian Roussimoff. The documented biographies therefore do not support a real-world father-son relationship.
Why did WCW link The Giant to André?
Wight debuted in WCW in 1995 as The Giant. Fightful reports that WCW billed the character as André the Giant’s son. Wight described the angle as an example of wrestling using a connection to an established performer to make a new character seem to inherit a respected legacy. He compared it to the fictional family connection between Arn and Ole Anderson: “Arn was related to Ole, that kind of thing.” Fightful’s account of Wight’s interview

Eric Bischoff, WCW’s former president, also said the promotion wanted to connect The Giant with André, while adding that he did not think they would go so far as to name him “Andre the Giant Jr.” Wrestling Inc.’s account of Bischoff’s comments
Those accounts distinguish the on-screen family angle from the wider promotional association. Bischoff’s comment about the name does not erase the reported billing of The Giant as André’s son.

Why do some fans still believe the story?
The storyline joined a new giant wrestler to one of wrestling’s best-known giants, making the connection easy to remember. Wight recalled that fans who had followed wrestling for decades sometimes approached him as if André had really been his father. He said some told him how much they loved his “dad,” prompting him to explain, “My dad was a mechanic.” Fightful’s account of Wight’s interview
That recollection helps explain why the claim lingered: the story was presented as wrestling biography, and some fans carried it beyond the storyline.

- In real life: Wight said André was not his father.
