In Vampire: The Masquerade, feeding from another vampire can affect both vampires’ Hunger and may risk a Blood Bond. In Magic: The Gathering’s Innistrad setting, by contrast, becoming a vampire involves a specific blood exchange—not simply surviving an ordinary bite.
Why the answer depends on the story
“Vampire” is not one shared fictional species with a single authoritative set of rules. A novel, film, television series, game, or role-playing setting can decide whether one vampire can feed on another, what the act does to the donor, and whether it creates any lasting supernatural effect. Official sources for Vampire: The Masquerade and Magic: The Gathering’s Innistrad setting, for example, describe different blood lore.
So feeding does not automatically mean the feeder gains the donor’s powers, the donor dies, or either vampire is transformed. Those outcomes need to be established by the particular canon.
What happens in Vampire: The Masquerade?
The answer depends on the edition and the rule being used. In the fifth-edition corebook, the section on feeding from other vampires describes an exchange that can change both vampires’ Hunger, with the result affected by their relative Blood Potency. It also warns of a Blood Bond risk. The available excerpt does not establish all the detailed mechanics, so consult the authorized corebook for exact rules. Paradox’s official Vampire: The Masquerade page describes the game’s vampiric-horror setting and its clans, while the cited corebook excerpt is hosted elsewhere.

A special case: Brutal Feed in Laws of the Night
Laws of the Night gives a specific Potence power, Brutal Feed, a defined effect against another vampire, including thin-bloods: it causes one Normal Damage, lets the user slake one Hunger, and raises the target’s Hunger by one. That is the effect of this named power in that rules source, not a universal rule for vampire feeding or a rule that should be applied to every World of Darkness edition. Does feeding turn a vampire or transfer their powers?
Not as a general rule. The cited rules establish particular Hunger, damage, and Blood Bond effects; they do not support a blanket claim that feeding automatically transfers powers, kills the donor, or turns either vampire into something else.

Innistrad offers a useful contrast. Wizards of the Coast describes its vampires as needing living human blood to survive and becoming vampires through a particular process: an anointing followed by an exchange in which the newly anointed human drinks the sire’s blood. The guide also says a human who survives being fed on does not thereby become a vampire. This is Innistrad lore, not a rule for other fictional settings. Wizards of the Coast’s Innistrad guide.

How to get a reliable answer for a specific vampire
- Name the canon. Identify the book, film, series, game, or role-playing setting; a general question about “vampires” cannot settle a setting-specific rule.
- Check the edition or version. For a game, use the relevant rulebook and edition rather than assuming that a rule from one version applies to another.
- Separate ordinary feeding from special effects. Look for rules about feeding itself, then check whether a named power or plot-specific ritual changes the result.
- Check each consequence separately. Ask whether the act restores sustenance, harms or changes the donor, creates a bond, or transforms either vampire. A rule establishing one effect does not establish the others.
