Its story turns to Helm Hammerhand, his daughter Héra, and a conflict with the Dunlendings. The trailer’s rallying return is a reading of those callbacks—not a promise that the new film reproduces the trilogy’s style or creative approach.
How the first trailer reconnects with Jackson’s films
The official trailer description frames the film as “a groundbreaking journey back to Middle-earth through the eyes of legendary director Kenji Kamiyama.” That is campaign language, not a personal quotation from Jackson. It also explicitly places the movie in the world brought to audiences by the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Watch the official trailer.
The Motion Picture Association’s The Credits describes the trailer as opening with footage from Jackson’s films before shifting to the anime’s story and visuals. That structure makes the earlier trilogy a point of entry: familiar film footage gives way to a new presentation of Middle-earth. It establishes a callback in the trailer, not that the feature uses Jackson’s visual style throughout or guarantees identical continuity in every creative detail. The Credits’ trailer coverage.
A new feature, with distinct creative leadership
The War of the Rohirrim is a New Line original anime feature based on Tolkien’s books, directed by Kenji Kamiyama. The official film site credits Peter Jackson as an executive producer—not as the director. The trailer’s appeal to the trilogy’s world and Jackson’s executive-producer credit connect the projects, while Kamiyama’s directing credit identifies who leads this film. The official film site.

Helm Hammerhand, Héra, and the conflict at the center
The trailer moves from its film-trilogy callback into a story about Helm Hammerhand’s family and the Dunlendings. The Credits describes its focus as Héra, Helm’s daughter, and her family’s struggle against the Dunlendings. The official film site identifies Brian Cox as Helm, Gaia Wise as Héra, and Luke Pasqualino as Wulf. Warner Bros. and New Line’s announcement described the project as exploring the story behind Helm’s Deep and Helm Hammerhand. Warner Bros. and New Line’s announcement.

The available trailer description and credits establish those connections, but do not by themselves settle how the finished film will balance familiarity with its distinct anime presentation.
