Kill Bill Vol. 3 has no confirmed production, cast, distributor, or release date in the latest relevant reporting available for this article. Quentin Tarantino has discussed several possible stories over the years, but those ideas never became an announced film. His 2023 comment was that he did not see a third film happening; a later report about a possible Bill-origin story describes a separate prequel concept, not confirmation of Vol. 3.
Is Kill Bill Vol. 3 happening?
There is no confirmed Kill Bill Vol. 3 production or release plan. The reported story ideas and Tarantino’s earlier optimism are not the same as a greenlight, and no cast or release date has been announced in the reporting cited here. In a 2023 interview with Belgian newspaper De Morgen, Tarantino said, “I don’t see that happening,” as Euronews reported.

That is his stated position at the time, not proof that his plans could never change. A 2025 report about a possible Bill-origin story concerns a different idea and does not establish that a third film entered production.
What stories has Tarantino considered?
The ideas discussed publicly have varied in protagonist and form. They are possibilities Tarantino talked about, not confirmed plots.

- A female assassin attacked on her wedding day and left for dead by her group leader/ex-lover, Bill, wakes up four years later from a coma and seeks revenge against him and his team of murderous assassins.
| Concept | Lead and premise | What it would be |
|---|---|---|
| Nikki’s revenge | Nikki, Vernita Green’s daughter, grows up and seeks revenge on the Bride. | A revenge sequel idea, described in an early concept recalled by SYFY’s 2025 retrospective. |
| The Bride and B.B. after years of peace | The Bride and her daughter B.B. have lived peacefully for 20 years before that peace is broken and they go on the run. | A later sequel idea Tarantino discussed in 2019; TheWrap’s account describes it as an idea, not a production plan. |
| Bill’s origins | A possible account of Bill’s beginnings and the three godfathers who shaped him. | A reported prequel concept, separate from the Nikki and Bride-and-B.B. sequel ideas; the 2025 report does not say it entered production. |
The early Nikki revenge idea
The first widely discussed direction centered on Nikki, the daughter of Vernita Green, one of the people the Bride targeted. The premise would carry the original films’ revenge cycle forward: Nikki would pursue the Bride, with her grievance framed as comparable to the Bride’s own. Tarantino discussed the idea years after the 2004 films, but it remained a proposed story rather than an announced sequel. SYFY’s retrospective recounts the concept and quotes his early explanation.
The Bride and B.B. on the run
In 2019, Tarantino described a different idea: returning to the Bride and B.B. after 20 years of peace, with the two forced to flee once that peace is broken. He explained that he did not want to invent an arbitrary new adventure for the Bride. As TheWrap quoted him from an Andy Cohen radio interview, “I do have an idea of what I would do with it. That was the whole thing was conquering that concept, exactly what’s happened to the Bride and what do I want to do.”

- After crossing two names off her kill list, The Bride returns with a plan of revenge targeting Budd (Michael Madsen) and Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah), the only survivors of the team of thugs who betrayed her four years ago. Everything leads to her ultimate confrontation with Bill (David Carradine), The Bride's former mentor and the one who ordered her assassination!
Tarantino also said casting Uma Thurman and her daughter Maya Hawke in the imagined story was exciting. That was hypothetical casting, not an announcement that Hawke or Thurman had signed on. The same 2019 discussion mentioned possible roles for Elle Driver, Sofie Fatale, and Gogo’s twin sister; none of those mentions confirmed appearances.
A possible Bill-origin prequel
A 2025 report described Tarantino discussing a possible story about Bill’s origins and the three godfathers who shaped him. That is a prequel concept, rather than a continuation of the Bride’s story. It is not evidence of a Vol. 3, a production start, or a scheduled release. World of Reel’s report is the source for this later idea.

What has Tarantino said, and when?
His comments range from early story pitches to later enthusiasm and then a more doubtful public position. Their dates matter: an earlier comment about what he might make is not a current production commitment.
- 2004 and the years afterward: Tarantino floated returning to the story years later, with Nikki seeking revenge against the Bride. The idea was recounted in SYFY’s 2025 retrospective.
- 2019: He said he had an idea for the Bride’s next chapter and told Andy Cohen, “But now I have an idea. I still wouldn’t do it for a little bit.” He also said, “But it is definitely in the cards.” At the time, he suggested a third film was at least three years away. That was a projection, not a release date, and no film followed on that timetable. TheWrap reported the interview.
- 2021: Tarantino described being exhausted after making Kill Bill. In SYFY’s retrospective, he is quoted saying: “The reason they never happened? OK, well, I f—ing killed myself on Kill Bill, went around the world, I don’t want to think about that sh** anymore.” The remark helps explain his reluctance at that point; it was not a production update.
- 2023: Asked about the prospect, Tarantino said, “I don’t see that happening.” Euronews reported the comment from his De Morgen interview. The same report said Tarantino described his then-planned final film as a story about a male film critic set in the 1970s.
- 2025: A report discussed the possible Bill-origin prequel, but did not confirm Vol. 3 or production. World of Reel covered that concept.
Why the different ideas are easy to confuse
“Kill Bill 3” is often used loosely for any possible return to the story, but the concepts are not interchangeable. Nikki’s revenge and the Bride-and-B.B. story would continue the saga in different ways; the reported Bill-origin idea would look backward at a character’s past. None is a confirmed film. The Uma Thurman–Maya Hawke pairing belongs to the hypothetical 2019 story discussion, not an official cast list.
