Leslie Bibb says The White Lotus production approached her while she was on a treadmill and told her it planned to offer Sam Rockwell a role. She worried he might decline because he was moving between projects, but creator Mike White reassured her that no one would blame her if he said no. Rockwell ultimately appeared as Frank, Rick’s old friend, in season three, episode five, “Full-Moon Party.”
How the cameo offer reached Leslie Bibb
In an account reported by ComingSoon on March 18, 2025, Bibb recalled being on a treadmill when producer Dave Bernad came over. She said the production told her, “We’re going to offer this to Sam.” Her account describes the team bringing the offer to her; it does not establish that she initiated or arranged Rockwell’s casting.
Bibb said she was nervous because Rockwell was moving from one project to another and might not be able to accept. She told the team, “You can’t get mad at me if he says no. What if he says no?” She recalled White answering, “No, no, no, we won’t get mad at you.” The report does not specify how long before filming the conversation took place.
Why Sam Rockwell’s appearance was a surprise
Rockwell appeared as Frank, an old friend of Walton Goggins’s character Rick, in “Full-Moon Party.” The surprise cameo arrives during the season-three episode’s Bangkok storyline, and Frank’s extended monologue became one of its most talked-about moments. TIME and TheWrap both describe the appearance and the scene’s significance.
#1 Best Overall
Spoilers for Frank’s monologue: In the conversation, Frank recounts losing control and later seeking satisfaction. The story touches on spirituality, death, doubles and mirrors, themes that echo across the season. Bibb said she had never seen anything like the scene on television and felt it expressed what White was trying to discuss through the show. That is her interpretation, not a definitive statement of White’s intent.
What Bibb has said about the scene
In an interview quoted by TheWrap, Bibb said the monologue carried meaning for the show. Harper’s Bazaar also reported her view that it connected with the women’s difficulty being honest about what they wanted. Those remarks offer Bibb’s reading of the scene; they should not be taken as a confirmed explanation from White.

Bibb and Rockwell also discussed keeping his appearance secret on the official The White Lotus podcast. The HBO listing for the March 24, 2025 episode, “Denials,” names Bibb and Patrick Schwarzenegger as guests.
