The latest report is not about reviving the show after its 2025 suspension: TheWrap says Kimmel and Disney are discussing the program’s future after the 2026–27 season. No agreement for the seasons beyond that has been announced.
Is Jimmy Kimmel Live! coming back?
It already returned. ABC’s program page lists episodes dated October 6 and October 7, 2026, and describes Jimmy Kimmel Live! as a weeknight program. ABC says viewers can watch it on ABC and stream it on Hulu.

The phrase “bring the show back” refers to a past event: ABC suspended the program in September 2025 after Kimmel’s remarks about Charlie Kirk’s killing and the political response. ABC announced that the show would return on Tuesday, September 23. The Associated Press quoted the network’s statement: “We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
What is being discussed now?
TheWrap reports that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will continue through the 2026–27 television season and that Kimmel and Disney executives are discussing its future beyond that season. ABC declined to comment to TheWrap. The talks are reported, not an official renewal announcement; no post-season extension, cancellation, or change in format has been confirmed publicly.

That distinction matters because ABC had already pushed back on a September 2026 report that the show was expected to end in 2027, saying reports about its future were speculative. Read alongside TheWrap’s later report of talks, the public picture is that the show is continuing through 2026–27 while its future afterward remains unsettled.

What ratings and Disney comments add to the story
ABC reported that the show averaged 2 million total viewers in the 2025–26 season, which the network called its most-watched season in eight years. ABC also reported a season average rating of 0.18 among adults 18–49, described as the program’s best performance in that demographic in four years. These are figures published by ABC, not independent verification, and they do not establish what Disney will decide about the show’s future.
For a narrower point of comparison, ABC reported an average of 2.29 million total viewers for the week of September 21, 2026, based on Live+Same Day Big Data Plus Panel ratings. That figure applies to that week, not the full season.
At Bloomberg’s Screentime conference on October 1, 2026, Disney president and chief creative officer Dana Walden described late-night television as “a very challenging daypart, late-night,” according to The Daily Beast. The outlet also reported that Walden said the show’s ratings were up relative to a smaller broadcast late-night audience. Her comments provide context about the market; they are not an announcement of the program’s fate.
