Bethenny Frankel said she tried Nutrafol Women for about a month and thought it worked, and that she noticed short hairs near her hairline after using Nioxin Night Density Rescue Serum for a month. Those are personal observations reported by Shape, not evidence that either product caused new growth or that a month is a reliable timeline for results.
What did Bethenny Frankel say she used?
In a report updated May 30, 2025, Shape said Frankel used two different kinds of products:
- Nutrafol Women Hair Growth Supplement: an ingestible dietary supplement. Shape quoted her saying, “I found that hair growth supplements do work,” and, “I did Nutrafol for a month, I think it works.”
- Nioxin Night Density Rescue Serum: a topical serum. Shape reported that after a month of use, Frankel “noticed that there was some very short hair near [my] hairline.”
The account does not establish that the short hairs were newly grown, nor does it show that either product caused a change. Frankel’s reported experience is an anecdote, not a controlled comparison or a guarantee of what another user will see.
What does the evidence say about Nutrafol?
Nutrafol’s clinical-studies page describes a six-month study of its Women Hair Growth Nutraceutical and cites Sivamani et al., published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology in 2024. That is a different time frame from Frankel’s reported month of use; it cannot verify her experience or predict an individual buyer’s results. The page also presents company-reported findings, including a 2022 result labeled “Data on file,” which should be distinguished from the cited published study.

Nutrafol says the FDA does not require clinical studies for dietary supplements, while the company says it invests in such studies. Its quality and standards page advises people taking prescription medication or those with specific concerns to talk with a doctor before starting a supplement.
What does the evidence say about Nioxin?
The Nioxin product in Frankel’s account is Night Density Rescue Serum. Nioxin’s current US product pages describe different products, so their claims and study details should not be treated as proof about the serum she named.

Current Hair Fall Defense Serum
Nioxin describes a double-blind clinical study involving 120 panelists for its current Hair Fall Defense Serum. The company frames the result around improved hair anchorage. That endpoint is not the same as evidence that the Night Density Rescue Serum caused new hair growth.
Current Hair Fall Defense Shampoo
Nioxin’s current Hair Fall Defense Shampoo page describes studies among 30 consumers and distinguishes reduced hair fall or stronger hair from regrowth. The page explicitly calls the shampoo “Not a hair regrowth product.” This statement concerns that shampoo, not Frankel’s serum.

Can one month of use produce visible new growth?
Frankel’s report establishes that she described noticing short hairs after a month; it does not establish when those hairs appeared, whether they represented new growth, or whether a product caused them. Nutrafol’s cited Women-formulation study ran for six months, while Nioxin’s current serum page describes an anchorage outcome for a different product. Neither source establishes one month as an expected time to see growth from the products in Frankel’s account.

No. Nutrafol Women is a supplement taken orally; Nioxin Night Density Rescue is a topical serum. The sources reviewed do not identify a head-to-head study comparing them, so they do not support ranking one as more effective than the other. Nutrafol also says its 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner supports thinning hair and scalp health but will not grow hair, according to its Care Team response.
