Bethenny Frankel initially disclosed a stage 2 chronic kidney disease diagnosis in January 2026, then said in February that her doctor had identified stage 3A. The latest personal update established by reports available through March 31, 2026, also described stage 3A after further testing. Her exact test results and medical records have not been made public in the cited accounts.
What Frankel has said about her diagnosis
On January 22, 2026, E! News reported that Frankel said she had begun a series of blood tests proactively and repeatedly received low kidney-function results. She said she then consulted a kidney specialist and was initially diagnosed with stage 2 chronic kidney disease (CKD). E! News reproduced her account: “Months ago, I decided that I was going to be very proactive about blood tests, bone density-all the things I had heard people talking about and I started to take a series of blood tests. And each time my kidney function was coming up low.” E! News’ January 22 report presents her statement; it is not a review of her medical records.
On February 19, The Daily Beast / The Looker reported that Frankel said her doctor told her she had stage 3A CKD. The outlet quoted her: “He said that I actually have stage 3A chronic kidney disease.” A March 31 report described later testing as indicating stage 3A after the initial stage 2 assessment. It also attributed reports of dehydration, dizziness, low blood pressure, and worsening symptoms to Frankel. Those are her reported personal experiences, not a general list of CKD symptoms. The February report and the March report describe her account.
What stage 2 and stage 3A CKD mean
CKD stages describe kidney function and evidence of kidney damage over time. The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) defines stage G2 and G3a using different eGFR ranges and diagnostic conditions. A stage label alone does not reveal the cause of kidney disease, predict an individual’s course, or determine a treatment plan.

| Category | eGFR range | What is needed for the CKD classification | What the stage alone does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stage G2 | 60–89 | Evidence of kidney damage lasting at least three months, in addition to the eGFR range. An eGFR in this range alone is not enough for a CKD diagnosis. | A person’s cause, prognosis, or treatment plan. |
| Stage G3a | 45–59 | The range must persist for at least three months and be confirmed with repeat testing to rule out acute kidney injury. | A person’s cause, prognosis, or treatment plan. |
These definitions are from the NKF’s stage G2 guidance and stage G3a guidance. They explain the categories, not Frankel’s personal lab values: the reports cited here do not establish her exact eGFR or urine albumin results.
How CKD is evaluated
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) describes two key tests: a blood test used to estimate GFR and a urine test that checks for albumin, a protein that can indicate kidney damage. Urine albumin findings may be repeated to confirm them. Clinicians interpret these results in context and over time; an isolated result does not provide a complete picture. NIDDK’s CKD tests and diagnosis guidance explains the tests.

Early CKD may cause no symptoms. The NKF says symptoms are typically absent in stage G2 and may appear, but are still typically absent, in G3a. Symptoms or a single test result are not a way to diagnose CKD yourself. If you have a concern, discuss testing and results with a healthcare professional.
What the reports do not establish about Frankel’s health
The public accounts cited here do not provide her exact eGFR, urine albumin results, underlying cause, or subsequent clinical course beyond the March 31, 2026 report. They also do not establish whether her stage or treatment status has changed since then. The reports attribute statements to Frankel; no treating clinician is named and quoted in them as an independent medical authority.

What people with CKD should discuss with a clinician
CKD care depends on individual findings, including urine albumin, blood pressure, other health conditions, and lab results. For G3a, the NKF advises regular blood-pressure checks, reviewing medicines with a clinician or pharmacist, and getting nutrition advice suited to the person. A kidney dietitian may help tailor food choices. These are topics to discuss with a care team, not a universal diet, hydration target, or medication plan. Frankel’s reported description of her doctor’s advice as “water is your medicine” is her account, not general medical guidance.
