The decision removed this season from its planned debut; ABC did not announce that the franchise as a whole was ending.
Why ABC pulled season 22
Disney Entertainment Television said the decision followed the release of a video from a 2023 altercation involving Paul and her former partner, Dakota Mortensen. ABC News reported the network’s statement: “In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of ‘The Bachelorette’ at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family.” ABC News reported the statement on March 19.

The season had already been filmed, according to the Associated Press. The timing was unusually close to launch: ABC’s announcement came three days before the scheduled March 22 premiere. The Associated Press reported the season’s removal and filming status.
What is known about the 2023 case—and what is separate
Coverage of the video also referenced a separately reported open domestic assault investigation. That investigation should not be confused with the older 2023 case shown in the video. ABC News reported that Paul entered a plea in abeyance in August 2023 and that the other charges in that older case were dismissed. Those details do not establish the outcome of the separate investigation, and allegations should not be treated as findings.

Was the season canceled permanently?
ABC’s phrase “at this time” left open whether the season might air later. It described the immediate decision not to proceed with the scheduled premiere, not a confirmed permanent cancellation of the completed season or the wider franchise.
On May 8, 2026, TheWrap reported that the season was absent from ABC’s summer schedule and that a later airing remained possible. TheWrap’s May 8 report was a schedule update, not confirmation of a new premiere date. A September 15 report from Marie Claire said there was still no firm plan to reschedule the season as of mid-September. That dated report does not establish what happened after September 15.

What the reported financial estimates mean
The Los Angeles Times reported that the season had nine episodes and that ABC had paid about $5 million per episode in license fees, with the network potentially losing at least $70 million. Those figures were estimates attributed to sources familiar with the matter, not official Disney disclosures. The Los Angeles Times report does not make them confirmed accounting figures.
