Lewis’s novel to the screen, following four siblings through a wardrobe into a world ruled by the White Witch. Here are 10 details about its source, cast, production, release and awards.
10 facts about the 2005 Narnia film
-
Its full title names the book it adapts
The full title is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Released in the United States on December 9, 2005, it adapts C. S. Lewis’s novel of the same name. Disney+ describes four children entering Narnia through a wardrobe and learning they have a role in freeing it with the help of the lion Aslan.
-
It is one film adaptation, not the whole book series
The story centers on the Pevensie siblings—Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter—and their encounters with the White Witch and Aslan. The film adapts The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first Narnia story published by Lewis; its title should not be mistaken for a screen adaptation of all seven books.
-
Andrew Adamson directed it
Andrew Adamson directed the film. Official credits name Ann Peacock, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely among its screenwriters. Disney’s film page lists the film and its creative credits.
