Colin Farrell’s 2024 comments about being tired of playing Oz Cobb, better known as the Penguin, were not a definitive refusal to appear in The Batman Part II. A report published that November said Farrell did not yet know pertinent details about the sequel and did not want to think about returning to the demanding role immediately. In a separate 2024 statement, director Matt Reeves said Farrell would be part of the film. Neither report establishes how large the character’s role will be.
What did Colin Farrell mean by “I’ve kind of had enough”?
The remark came in the context of Farrell’s physically demanding experience playing Oz in the HBO series The Penguin. A November 9, 2024, CBR report, surfaced through IMDb, described Farrell as fatigued by the role and reluctant to think about playing Oz again right away. The report also said he did not know pertinent details about The Batman Part II at the time and expected producer Dylan Clark might update him. Read CBR’s November 9, 2024 report.
That is evidence of wanting a break from an exhausting role, not evidence that Farrell had rejected a return. The available report summarizes the interview rather than supplying a verified verbatim transcript, so it does not support treating the headline phrase as a complete or categorical statement about the sequel.
Is Colin Farrell returning as the Penguin in The Batman Part II?
In a 2024 SFX Magazine excerpt, director Matt Reeves said Farrell “will be part of the movie.” Reeves also said at the time that the script was being finished and that the plan was to shoot the following year. Those comments record the director’s stated plan in 2024; they are not a current production update or confirmation of Farrell’s present screen time. Read the SFX excerpt reproduced on Scribd.

There is no contradiction between Reeves describing an intended appearance and Farrell saying he lacked sequel details and did not want to think about reprising Oz immediately. Reeves was discussing the film’s plan; Farrell was describing his knowledge and feelings at that point.
What is not established about the Penguin’s role?
The cited reports do not specify the character’s plot function, the number or nature of his scenes, or his screen time. They also do not establish whether plans or production details changed after those 2024 comments. A stated intention that Farrell be part of the film should not be read as proof of a particular role size or story arc.
