Spoilers for “Excessive Force,” season 1, episode 6. “Daredevil: Born Again” finally starts to feel like it is gathering force in “Excessive Force.” Muse’s murders create an urgent threat, Matt Murdock is pushed closer to becoming Daredevil again, and Wilson Fisk’s political ambitions keep the danger tied to a larger question: who gets to decide what New York needs?
What happens in “Excessive Force”
Released March 25, 2025, the sixth episode centers on Muse, a masked killer who turns victims into grotesque street art. His blood-painted work is more than a grim visual hook: it gives Matt a crisis that demands action and makes the possibility of returning to the Daredevil identity feel immediate. Rotten Tomatoes lists the episode as “Excessive Force” and describes Muse’s murders; its cast-and-crew listing gives the air date.
The episode’s most important movement is not simply that Matt faces another villain. Muse’s threat presses him toward putting the suit back on, including a rescue involving a kidnapped girl. That choice gives the violence consequence: the question is no longer abstractly whether Matt misses being Daredevil, but whether he can stand aside when someone is in danger. The Ringer’s recap notes that the episode moves Matt closer to fully embracing his return, while The Atlantic describes Muse’s attack as the pressure that sends him back into action.
Does the episode finally pick up steam?
Yes, in the sense that several strands begin to pull in the same direction. Muse supplies a focused, frightening immediate problem; Matt’s response turns that problem into a defining step toward his old role; and the episode continues Fisk’s story instead of treating the city’s political conflict as a separate show. The result is a clearer sense of what the season’s pieces are doing together.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That momentum is earned more by consequence than by sheer escalation. Muse’s presence makes Matt’s return feel necessary, while Fisk’s parallel rise keeps the season’s larger tension alive: Matt acts to protect individuals, whereas Fisk is pursuing political power and presenting himself as someone who can shape the city. Marvel’s official season overview frames the broader conflict around Matt, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, and Fisk, a former mob boss with political ambitions in New York. Episode 6 gives that premise more dramatic traction.
Where “Excessive Force” still feels crowded
The same dual focus that gives the episode scale can also make it feel compressed. Muse’s murderous art is potent imagery, but the episode has to share its attention between the immediate threat and the continuing Fisk story. Whether that balance lands depends on how much weight a viewer wants the Muse plot to carry before the season moves on. The episode advances the story decisively; it does not make every thread feel equally developed.

The Atlantic has described the series’ structure as balancing episodic adventures with serial plotting. Here, that balance is visible rather than seamless: Muse’s crisis gives the episode an urgent center, while Fisk keeps the action attached to the season’s wider contest over public safety and authority. That tension is productive, even if the transitions can leave the episode feeling busy.
Muse’s menace and comics connection
Muse works best as a threat whose artistic obsession makes the city feel violated, not as an invitation to linger on gore. His murals turn murder into spectacle, giving Matt a disturbing public crime scene and the show a visual shorthand for a villain who wants attention as much as control. GamesRadar identifies Muse’s first comics appearance as Daredevil Vol. 5 #11 (2016). That is a point of origin for curious readers, not evidence that this episode adapts that issue.

Verdict: a meaningful turn, not a victory lap
“Excessive Force” is a momentum shift because it makes Matt’s return to Daredevil action feel pressing and connects that choice to the season’s ongoing Fisk conflict. The Muse plot gives the episode a strong engine, and the broader political thread gives its action stakes beyond the next confrontation. Some of the movement feels crowded, but this is the first point where the season’s separate pressures begin to converge with real force. The revival is picking up steam—not because every strand is resolved, but because the episode makes clear why Matt can no longer keep them at a distance.
