Directors Yuriy Dvizhon and Karina Pustovalova say it will examine the murder and court proceedings while treating language and word meanings as a way to trace how intentions take shape. No premiere date had been announced in Hromadske’s 6 October 2026 report.
What is the documentary about Iryna Farion called?
The film is titled Її три дієслова, translated as Her Three Verbs. It is a full-length documentary about Farion, a linguist and public figure who was shot in Lviv on 19 July 2024 and later died in hospital. The project will consider the murder, the court proceedings, digital traces and what the filmmakers describe as the role of language in shaping intentions.
The film’s framing is the directors’ stated approach, not a substitute for the court record. Its focus on language gives the story an investigative dimension beyond a crime chronology: Pustovalova has described it as a “linguistic detective story,” in which words and their meanings may help trace a path from thought to intention and action.
Who is making the film, and what material will it use?
Yuriy Dvizhon and Karina Pustovalova are the directors. Dvizhon is also a co-producer, and Pustovalova is the screenwriter. The film brings together footage shot with Farion in 2022 and material gathered after her death.

Footage filmed with Farion in 2022
Dvizhon filmed with Farion for six days while making the short film The Diva of Ukrainian Nationalism. Hromadske reported in 2026 that about 13 hours of interviews and observations from that work remain, most of them previously unpublished. The filmmakers plan to use this footage as archival material relating to Farion and her family. These quantities are reported by the project and have not been described as independently audited.
Filming after her death
After Farion died in July 2024, the team resumed filming, beginning with her funeral in Lviv. It has also documented court proceedings and her family’s life after her death. Planned posthumous footage includes the burial and the opening of a street named in her honor.

How do the filmmakers connect language to the case?
Pustovalova says she wanted an approach that would not reduce the story to a criminal chronicle. She was drawn to how a lawyer named Natalia examined the case through words, meanings and subtext; from that, she developed the idea of a linguistic detective story. In this approach, language is a lens the film uses to consider how thought may lead to intention and action—not a claim that words alone establish what happened.
Dvizhon has said that the footage he recorded with Farion in 2022 took on a different significance after her murder. He revisited it as part of a larger story about what happened to her and what followed her death. The film therefore combines previously unpublished archival material with later reporting and observation rather than relying on one period of filming.

What is the current status of the murder case?
On 1 October 2026, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Lviv sentenced Vyacheslav Zinchenko to life imprisonment in the murder case, according to Rubryka. That was a first-instance judgment, not a final, unappealable outcome: Rubryka reported that it could be appealed within 30 days. The outlet also reported that Zinchenko denied guilt during the trial.
The court case and the documentary’s interpretation should be kept distinct. The directors have said the film will document proceedings and examine digital traces, but the film’s stated linguistic approach is their framing, not a court finding.
