The conflict between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni grew out of the production and promotion of It Ends With Us, but the public record does not establish that Baldoni personally revealed a particular set of texts or emails. Filed communications are evidence submitted in litigation, not automatic proof that every claim or interpretation in them is true. The lawsuits were later resolved by agreement, after a court had narrowed Lively’s case.
What was the conflict about?
It Ends With Us, starring Lively and Baldoni, is based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York described the litigation as arising from events during the film’s production and promotion, followed by public fallout between its co-stars.

Lively alleged sexual harassment and retaliation connected to the production. Those were allegations in her filings; they should not be treated as established findings simply because they were described in court papers. Baldoni and other Wayfarer-affiliated parties brought a separate lawsuit against Lively and others. That case, too, involved disputed claims rather than facts established merely by their inclusion in a complaint.
What do the texts and emails show?
What is established about the communications
A discovery exhibit containing communications and supporting material was filed on January 20, 2026. Its presence in the court record establishes that the material was submitted as part of litigation. It does not, by itself, establish that the court accepted a party’s characterization of a message or found every assertion in it true.

- IT ENDS WITH US tells the empowering story of Lily Bloom. Grappling with a painful past, Lily embarks on a new life in Boston and opens her own flower shop. After falling in love with Ryle, Lily begins to see sides of him that remind her of her dangerous father. With the support of her friends and allies, Lily must find her own strength to break the pattern or the pattern will break her.
What remains unclear about “he reveals”
The available procedural record does not identify the exact messages meant by the claim that Baldoni “reveals” texts and emails, establish that he personally disclosed a particular selection, or supply the full context of every excerpt circulated publicly. Without identifying a specific filing and its provenance, it would be misleading to attribute particular messages to him or call them newly revealed.
To assess any individual exchange, a reader needs to know who submitted the exhibit, the page and filing, the date and participants, and what came before and after the quoted messages. It also matters whether the material was sealed, redacted or disputed, and whether the judge relied on it in a ruling. The January 20 filing should not be treated as a judicial endorsement of every message’s interpretation.

Why did Lively and the Wayfarer parties sue?
Lively’s allegations
Lively filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department on December 20, 2024. After receiving a right-to-sue notice, she filed a federal lawsuit on December 31, 2024. The court’s later procedural history describes her pleaded claims as involving sexual harassment and retaliation, among other causes of action. A complaint records what a plaintiff alleges; it does not prove the allegations.
The Wayfarer parties’ separate lawsuit
The Wayfarer parties sued Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, publicist Leslie Sloane and Vision PR; The New York Times was later added as a defendant. The claims included defamation and other legal theories. On June 9, 2025, Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed the amended complaint while allowing limited amendment of certain claims. The court’s later account says no further amended complaint was filed.

How did the cases end?
The April 2026 ruling narrowed Lively’s case
On April 2, 2026, the court granted the defendants’ motions in part and denied them in part. It granted judgment on all claims except three:
- Lively’s retaliation claim against It Ends With Us Movie LLC and Wayfarer Studios.
- Her aiding-and-abetting retaliation claim against The Agency Group PR LLC.
- Her contract-rider claim against It Ends With Us Movie LLC.
This was a ruling about which claims could proceed at that stage, not a verdict resolving the truth of every disputed event.
The parties announced an agreement in May
On May 4, 2026, the parties’ lawyers announced an agreement to resolve the Blake Lively and Wayfarer litigation. In a joint statement reported by The Washington Post, they said: “We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard.” They also described the finished film as a source of pride and expressed hope that the agreement would allow everyone to move forward. The statement was a joint statement by the lawyers, not a court finding about the underlying allegations.
A later order addressed fees and costs
On August 26, 2026, the court granted in part and denied in part Lively’s request for attorneys’ fees and costs under California Civil Code § 47.1. That post-resolution order concerned the fee request; it was not a new trial of the underlying allegations.

The procedural history supplies a clear timeline, but it does not turn every allegation or message into an established fact. Keep these distinctions in mind when evaluating coverage or excerpts online:
- A complaint states a party’s allegations.
- A filed exhibit shows material a party placed before the court; context and interpretation can remain disputed.
- A judicial ruling determines specified legal or procedural questions. The April 2026 order left three claims to proceed at that stage and did not decide every contested event.
- An agreement to resolve litigation is not a judicial determination that all allegations were true or false.
The key records include the Southern District of New York’s June 9, 2025 dismissal order in the Wayfarer action; its April 2, 2026 order on the motions in Lively’s case; the January 20, 2026 discovery exhibit; the May 4, 2026 joint-statement reporting by The Washington Post; and the court’s June 12 and August 26, 2026 orders recounting the litigation history and addressing fees.
