Guests can follow clues and use an RFID wristband to trigger interactions, or simply wander through the art and themed rooms without solving the story.
What is Atlas 9?
Atlas 9 is built around an invented 1990s movie theater and the idea that its projection system has caused films to come to life. The Kansas City Star reported that the attraction opened to the public on September 25, 2025, at 1100 N. 98th St., near the Legends in Kansas City, Kansas. Its 46,000-square-foot building contains a sequence of environments linked by artwork, story clues and interactive elements. The Star’s opening-period report describes the venue and its premise.
What’s inside Atlas 9?
The rooms are designed as fragments of films and places within the larger fictional world, rather than as a conventional sequence of exhibits with one required route.
- “Trance of the Sapphire” jazz club: A 1930s-style setting where, according to The Kansas City Star, a guest’s seating position can affect the music.
- Underwater-themed area: One of the attraction’s movie-inspired environments.
- Break room: An in-world space with computers, alongside arcade games and a photo booth.
- Main theater: The Star reported that the room seats 240 and was intended to host future film festivals and performances.
In a November 2025 feature, Midwest Living described Atlas 9 as a blend of art, technology, mission-style play, live performers and spectacle. It reported that more than 250 local and national contributors—including designers, artists, fabricators, technologists, engineers, installers, animators and performers—worked on the physical and digital exhibits. Do you have to solve the clues?
No. The attraction accommodates two approaches, and neither requires visitors to complete the entire story.
| How you explore | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Casual exploration | Wander at your own pace, take in the rooms and artwork, and use the games or photo opportunities without trying to uncover every plot point. |
| Narrative-led exploration | Look for clues, check in at marked locations with your RFID wristband and pursue missions or hidden interactions. Some scans can change what happens in a room. |
The wristband serves as a ticket as well as an interaction tool. The mix means visitors can shift between looking and playing rather than treating the attraction like a puzzle with a single finish line. Midwest Living likewise reported that guests could either pursue clues or focus on the environments.

How the experience comes together
Atlas 9 brings together environmental design, interactive technology and performance to make its fictional film world feel inhabited. Dimensional Innovations, a Kansas City-area design firm, created the attraction; opening coverage also identified Homefield and local interactive entertainment company Swell Spark as project partners.
In its November 2025 account, Midwest Living described Atlas 9 as Dimensional Innovations’ first attraction built from the ground up, following the firm’s work for museums, sports venues and corporate offices. The attraction’s co-creator Randall Statler recalled the project’s early idea this way: “Tucker Trotter, CEO of Dimensional Innovations, said to me and another coworker, ‘Hey, do you think we’re weird enough to create one of these immersive art experiences and invite the public inside?’” Statler said he responded: “Yes, we are.”

What has changed since opening?
Atlas 9’s story and programming have developed over time. In coverage dated March 15, 2026, The Kansas City Star reported that the attraction had added story elements and was presenting daily live performances. It described Rebecca Mansueto as Atlas 9’s performance manager through Kansas City-based Quixotic, leading performers who interact with guests and appear in different areas. These are details reported at that time; performance schedules and programming may change. The Star’s March 2026 feature gives that dated account.

It also listed historical admission prices: $25 for children ages 3–12 and $35 for adult Wyandotte County residents; $30 for children and $40 for adults from outside the county; and $35 for military members, teachers and first responders in a “heroes” category. Those figures describe prices reported at opening, not confirmed current rates; check Atlas 9’s current visitor information for admission terms, hours and any access arrangements before a visit.
Current hours, accessibility arrangements and performance schedules are not established by the cited coverage. A January 2026 Kansas legislative update did not provide a visitor total, so no attendance figure is included here.
