The clearest sourced discussion of LGBTQ+ representation in Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir concerns the same-gender pairings Rose Lavillant and Juleka Couffaine, and Marc Anciel and Nathaniel Kurtzberg. A 2022 academic article discusses them as pairings among the classmates. That is evidence of how the series’ representation has been analyzed—not an official roster assigning sexual-orientation labels to characters.
Which characters are discussed as same-gender pairings?
The December 2022 article in Études de communication discusses Rose and Juleka, and Marc and Nathaniel, as same-gender pairings among the classmates. This is the strongest source here for answering which characters are associated with LGBTQ+ representation in the series. It supports describing those pairings as part of scholarly discussion of the show; it does not, by itself, establish a definitive official identity label for each character. Read the 2022 article.
Rose Lavillant and Juleka Couffaine
Toei Animation’s official Japanese profile describes Juleka as quiet and gothic in style, notes that she plays bass, and says she often spends time with energetic Rose. That profile establishes a connection between the characters, but does not label either character’s sexual orientation. See Toei’s Juleka profile.
Marc Anciel and Nathaniel Kurtzberg
The academic article also discusses Marc and Nathaniel as a same-gender pairing. Toei’s official profile describes Nathaniel as an artistic boy pursuing his dream and identifies his superhero form as Caprikid; it does not state his sexual orientation. See Toei’s Nathaniel profile.

Are Rose and Juleka a couple, and are Marc and Nathaniel canon?
The sources cited here support saying that scholarship discusses both as same-gender pairings in the series. They do not provide enough episode-specific evidence to establish precisely what either pairing is shown to do on screen, or to settle every use of the word “canon.” The Toei character profiles describe character traits and connections, but do not define these relationships or give orientation labels. It is therefore more accurate to attribute the pairing description to the academic article than to present it as an official identity announcement.
What the series’ official overview establishes
The official franchise overview and Toei’s series page describe Marinette and Adrien as students who become the Paris superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir, with a central romantic-crush premise. Those pages provide the main-series context, not a comprehensive guide to LGBTQ+ identities among the characters. Visit the official franchise site or Toei’s series page.

How to distinguish identity claims from relationship interpretations
A relationship pairing and a character’s sexual orientation are related questions, but they are not interchangeable. A profile can establish a character’s name, traits, or role without specifying orientation; a scholarly article can analyze representation without serving as an official character roster. Likewise, discussion of fan and production interaction can help explain how subtle representation is recognized or incorporated, but it is not a substitute for direct episode evidence or an attributable statement from a creator.
For a precise claim, check what kind of evidence supports it: an episode’s depiction, an official character page, a direct attributable creator statement, or scholarly interpretation. The sources cited above support discussion of two pairings, but do not establish a complete list of characters’ identity labels.
