The opening theme of Dan Da Dan is “Otonoke” by Creepy Nuts. The chirpy, high-pitched sound fans describe as “Pikmin noises” has been linked to a possible source: a sped-up, chopped vocal from Billy Murray’s 1915 recording “I’ve Been Floating Down the Old Green River.” That identification comes from fan analysis and reporting, however—not an official sample credit confirmed by Creepy Nuts.
What song opens Dan Da Dan?
“Otonoke,” performed by Creepy Nuts, is the opening theme for the anime. The official Dan Da Dan site named the song when it published the opening video on October 4, 2024. Sony Music Labels also identifies it as the anime’s opening theme in its release announcement.
Sony Music Labels says the song was written for the series. Its description connects the relationship between music-maker and listener with the way spirits and yokai in the story attach to people through shared pain and sorrow. The label also characterizes the track as a fast, Jersey-club-influenced beat with a melodic, emotional hook; that is the label’s description, rather than an independent production analysis.
Where might the “Pikmin noises” come from?
The proposed source is a vocal by singer Billy Murray in “I’ve Been Floating Down the Old Green River,” a 1915 recording. In a November 4, 2024 report, Gizmodo credited the comparison to a fan known as DankidyDan, who argued that the sound in “Otonoke” could be heard in Murray’s performance after chopping and speeding up the vocal. The fan discussion began in a Reddit thread.

That is a reported fan match, not a verified production credit. The materials available do not include confirmation from Creepy Nuts or the song’s production team that Murray’s recording was sampled. So the careful answer is that fans have traced the Pikmin-like sound to a possible altered vocal from the 1915 song—not that the sample’s source has been officially established.
Why do listeners call it a Pikmin sound?
“Pikmin noises” describes how some listeners hear the bright, small-sounding vocal effect; it does not mean the sound is from a Pikmin game. Nintendo’s comments about Pikmin audio provide context for the resemblance, not evidence of a connection to “Otonoke.” In an interview about Pikmin 4, sound designer Kida said the team aimed for sounds that would make Pikmin seem real and discussed details such as footsteps. That account concerns Nintendo’s own sound design only.

For the anime’s score rather than its opening song, Milan Records describes a six-track DAN DA DAN Original Soundtrack Lead Trax EP by composer Kensuke Ushio as a preview of the broader score’s disco, funk, and house sound. The label’s release page covers the EP; it is a separate listening option, not the source of the “Pikmin noises.”
