Carmy sees it on his phone, but the episode gives viewers no clear verdict before cutting to “TO BE CONTINUED.” Sydney’s unresolved career decision and Carmy’s fractured relationships leave the finale’s other major questions open, too.
What happens at the end of “Forever”?
The finale follows the last dinner service at Ever, where Carmy, Sydney, and Richie encounter an experienced kitchen team working in close coordination. Their visit contrasts with the pressure and tension inside The Bear. It also puts Carmy face to face with David Fields, the former chef whose treatment of him left a lasting mark.
Carmy confronts Fields. Fields replies, “You’re welcome.” The exchange brings Carmy’s past into the present: he has been shaped by a punishing idea of perfection, and the finale leaves viewers to consider how much that experience influences the way he leads his own kitchen.
After the dinner, Carmy walks through Chicago and opens the Tribune review on his phone. Uncle Jimmy and Computer have been calling, waiting to hear what the review says. Carmy reads the words in fragments, through visible anxiety; the episode never presents the full text or a definite overall verdict. Then it cuts to “TO BE CONTINUED.”

What did the Chicago Tribune review say?
The episode does not tell us. Carmy’s fixation on isolated words is not enough to establish whether the review praises or criticizes the restaurant, and the full review is never shown or read aloud. There is no confirmed star rating or quoted verdict in the finale.
The review matters because its consequences could be substantial: Uncle Jimmy has warned that a sufficiently bad review could put his support for the restaurant at risk. But the episode ends before it shows Jimmy reacting or establishes what happens to The Bear. The cliffhanger is the absence of that answer, not a hidden confirmation that the restaurant is either safe or doomed.

Why end on an unread review?
A grounded interpretation is that the review makes Carmy’s fear of judgment visible. A public assessment of the restaurant is finally in front of him, but he cannot take it in calmly. The fragmented reading lets the viewer experience the moment through his anxious anticipation rather than receive a clean, objective summary.
That is an interpretation of the scene, not a factual reveal about the review or a confirmed explanation from the show’s creators. What the episode establishes is narrower: Carmy sees the review, reacts anxiously, and leaves viewers without its complete verdict.

Does Sydney leave The Bear?
Not by the end of Season 3. Sydney has neither signed Carmy’s partnership agreement nor accepted Adam Shapiro’s offer to join his new restaurant. Her decision is still pending.
The choice is about more than which kitchen she works in. It involves the creative credit and autonomy she can expect, compensation and benefits, the stability of the workplace, and her ties to the people at The Bear. Carmy’s volatile leadership already weighs on her. A clipping about her work contributes to a panic attack at her apartment, underscoring how personally and professionally fraught the decision has become.

Did Carmy and Richie make up?
No reconciliation is shown before the season ends. Their rift from the Season 2 finale remains unresolved. Carmy also has not contacted Claire to apologize. These unfinished relationships sit alongside the review and Sydney’s decision as separate open threads—not answers supplied by the last scene.

It signals that the story would continue beyond this episode; it was not the end of the series. The Walt Disney Company announced in 2026 that Season 5 would be the show’s final season, premiering June 25 on FX and Hulu, with international availability on Disney+. Its official synopsis says the final season begins after Sydney, Richie, and Sugar discover that Carmy has quit the food industry.

That later-series information confirms that the story moved beyond the Season 3 cliffhanger, but it does not disclose the text of the Season 3 review. Nor should events described in coverage of the Season 4 finale be treated as something Season 3 had already revealed.
