Kacey Musgraves accidentally left a styling clip in her hair during the closing credits of her March 2024 Saturday Night Live appearance. She spotted the oversight herself and joked about it online the next day. It was a small hair-accessory mishap, not a clothing failure.
What happened with Kacey Musgraves on SNL?
Musgraves was the musical guest on the Saturday Night Live episode hosted by Sydney Sweeney. When she joined the cast onstage for the closing credits, a styling clip was still in her hair. Glamour reported that the clip had been used to help keep her sleek hair in shape; it was an easy detail to miss at first because it could look like part of the styling. Glamour’s March 4, 2024 report described it as a minor wardrobe mishap, but the issue was an accessory in her hair—not a problem with her outfit.
What did Musgraves say about the clip?
The next day, Musgraves reposted an image of the moment on X with the caption: “The clip. I forgot to remove the clip.” The Independent dated the post to March 3, 2024, and reported that the clip was visible during the closing-credits scene with Sweeney and Glen Powell. The Independent’s report and Glamour’s coverage both reproduced her brief acknowledgment.
What was the clip, and what color was it?
It was a hair clip left in place after styling. Reports disagree about its color: Glamour called it white, while The Independent described it as large and blue. Without confirmation from Musgraves’s original image, the safest description is simply a hair clip; neither report identifies its brand or model.

What else was happening during the SNL appearance?
Musgraves performed “Deeper Well” and “Too Good to Be True” on the episode. At the time, coverage said her album Deeper Well was scheduled for release on March 15, 2024; that was the release date announced in March 2024, not a current announcement. Marie Claire described her closing-credits look as a maxi denim dress with a thigh-high slit and knee-high boots, but those outfit details do not change the nature of the clip mishap. Marie Claire’s coverage also quoted Musgraves describing the album as “an honest excavation of my own transformation the last few years.”
