At a live recording of the National Treasure Hunt podcast in Philadelphia on August 21, 2026, director Jon Turteltaub said the long-discussed third film had reached a script stage he liked. TheWrap reported his remarks the next day, including his description of the project as “finally real” and his account of Disney’s favorable response: the script “sounds like a movie we can make.” That response was relayed by Turteltaub, not issued as a public Disney announcement. TheWrap’s report also said Disney representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Is Nicolas Cage confirmed to return?
No. TheWrap reported that original stars, including Cage, were in talks to return, but the reports reviewed do not establish a signed casting agreement. The Independent quoted Turteltaub hoping to bring back the original cast “to whatever extent we can,” including Cage—language that expresses intent rather than a confirmed deal. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer had said at TheWrap’s TheGrill conference in 2025, “We’re getting closer on that one,” and said the intention was for Cage and Turteltaub to return. The proposed sequel would follow two theatrical films: National Treasure (2004) and National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007). Disney+ released the related series National Treasure: Edge of History in 2022; it ran for one season. The series is part of the franchise, but it is not a third theatrical film.
