On January 24, 2024, David Lee Roth used an episode of TheRothShow to criticize Wolfgang Van Halen, repeating the phrase “this fuckin’ kid.” Roth also made claims about onstage attention and guests being removed from shows. Those are Roth’s allegations; contemporaneous reports did not independently verify the incidents.
What did David Lee Roth say about Wolfgang Van Halen?
Roth’s five-minute, 32-second episode was titled “This Fuckin’ Kid,” according to The Daily Beast. The report describes a spoof interview followed by Roth recounting tensions with Wolfgang, who played bass in Van Halen during part of Roth’s later tenure. Rolling Stone also reported on Roth’s January 24 YouTube video and his repeated use of “this fuckin’ kid.”
Roth’s account of the dispute
Roth alleged that Wolfgang had complained about not receiving enough attention onstage. Roth also said that guests he had invited were removed from two shows, and described the women as associated with the tour’s accounting firm and responsible for payroll. These details come from Roth’s account as reported by The Daily Beast and Rolling Stone; the reports do not independently establish that the incidents happened as he described them.
What had Wolfgang said about Van Halen projects?
The dispute was reported alongside Wolfgang’s earlier comments about a proposed tribute concert for his father, Eddie Van Halen. In a 2022 Rolling Stone interview, Wolfgang said: “There are some people that make it very difficult to do anything when it comes to Van Halen.”

Wolfgang did not name Roth in that quoted sentence. Rolling Stone’s January 2024 report connected the remark to Roth, but that is the publication’s interpretation of the context, not a direct accusation by Wolfgang naming him.
What is established—and what remains unconfirmed?
- Reported: The episode appeared January 24, 2024, as part of TheRothShow, and Roth criticized Wolfgang using the phrase “this fuckin’ kid.”
- Alleged by Roth: Wolfgang wanted more attention onstage, and invited guests were removed from two shows.
- Not independently verified in the cited coverage: The circumstances of those alleged incidents.
- At publication: The Daily Beast said representatives for Roth and Wolfgang did not immediately respond to its request for comment. That report does not establish whether either responded later.
Wolfgang Van Halen’s music beyond the dispute
Wolfgang leads Mammoth WVH. The band’s second album, Mammoth II, was released in 2023, according to Louder. That is useful background on his work, but it does not resolve or substantiate Roth’s claims.
