A separate Rolling Stone report, based on an unnamed source, said people around a project were preparing songs to present to her—but that she was not recording and nothing was settled. As of an August 2026 report, two projects she had teased remained unidentified, with no confirmed connection to music.
What did Britney Spears say about a new album?
In an Instagram post dated Jan. 3, 2024, Spears rejected reports that she was turning to people to make a new album. ABC News reproduced her statement: “Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash !!! They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!!” (ABC News; The Associated Press.)
She also said she continued writing, either for pleasure or for other artists: “When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!!” Spears said she had written more than 20 songs for other people over the previous two years and described herself as a ghostwriter. Those figures and that description are her own claims, not an independently verified count of songwriting credits. (AP; ABC News.)
What was reported about her team preparing songs?
Shortly before Spears’s denial, Rolling Stone reported that an unnamed source close to a project described management and A&R working to get her excited about music, with songs being prepared for her to hear. The source said Spears was not actively recording and nothing was cemented. The account described both ballads and uptempo material. (Rolling Stone.)

According to that same unnamed source, Julia Michaels, Charli XCX, producer Cirkut and collaborators including Jason Evigan had been tapped to make songs to present to Spears. That is a report about proposed preparation—not confirmation that Spears heard or accepted the songs, recorded them, or planned to release an album.
