Bob’s dark side appears as the Void, not as a wholly separate character. Pullman is also listed in Disney’s official cast for Avengers: Doomsday, but the listing does not confirm what Bob will do in that film.
Who is Bob in Thunderbolts*?
Bob is Robert Reynolds, the person who becomes the Sentry. Disney’s account of the film describes him as depressed and down on his luck when he volunteers for a secret Super-Soldier experiment arranged by CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The experiment gives him extraordinary, “godlike” powers. Valentina then gives him the Sentry identity, complete with a classic costume and blonde hair dye.
Valentina says he is “stronger than all of the Avengers rolled into one.” That is her claim in the story, not an independently established ranking of his power.
Is Bob the Sentry, or is the Sentry someone else?
Bob and the Sentry are facets of the same character in the film: Bob Reynolds is the person, and Sentry is the identity Valentina gives him after the experiment. The distinction matters because the Sentry is not simply a different person who replaces Bob.

Who or what is the Void?
The Void is the manifestation of Bob’s dark side and becomes a danger to the Thunderbolts and the wider world. Pullman has described the personas as connected rather than as sides the audience should treat as unrelated. Discussing his work with director Jake Schreier, he said: “We were always very clear on the fact that we couldn’t have them be so separate that you could root for one and not for the others — that the audience understood that these were all derivatives of the same spirit and of the same person.”
How does Bob get his powers?
In Thunderbolts*, Bob gets his powers by volunteering for Valentina’s secret Super-Soldier experiment. That is the film’s explanation; it should not be conflated with the Sentry’s comic-book origin.

How is the MCU version different from the comics?
Marvel’s brief official descriptions of the comics give a broad point of comparison: one calls Bob Reynolds an ordinary man who recalls his past as the Sentry, while another describes him drinking a serum and becoming the Sentry. Those summaries do not establish a complete account of the character’s comic continuity, and they are not evidence that the MCU experiment duplicates the comics’ explanation.
| Aspect | Thunderbolts* MCU version | Marvel comics descriptions |
|---|---|---|
| Origin of powers | A secret Super-Soldier experiment. | A Marvel character-history summary describes Bob drinking a serum and becoming the Sentry; the brief description does not establish every continuity detail. |
| Who is responsible for the transformation? | Valentina organizes the experiment and gives Bob the Sentry identity. | Not stated in the available brief descriptions. |
| Bob, Sentry and the Void | The film connects Bob and Sentry as the same person, with the Void as a manifestation of Bob’s dark side. | The available brief descriptions do not establish how the comics frame the Void in relation to Bob. |

Is Sentry in Avengers: Doomsday?
Disney’s official Avengers: Doomsday cast page lists Lewis Pullman. That confirms his connection to the film, but the cast listing does not identify Bob’s role, story arc, powers or screen time. Those character-specific details remain unconfirmed by that source.
How does Thunderbolts* show Sentry’s powers?
Industrial Light & Magic’s production account says its work focused substantially on Bob Reynolds as Sentry and later the Void. It describes a continuous 45-second shot in which Sentry pushes Red Guardian through a window. That is a production detail about how the film presents the character; it does not establish the fictional limits of his abilities.
