The program listed 16 disciplines, including Olympic debutant ski mountaineering, and 116 planned medal events. The Paralympic Winter Games followed from March 6 to 15. This retrospective guide covers the dates, host areas, venues, sports, changes to the program, and what is—and is not—established about results and viewing now.
When were the 2026 Winter Olympics?
The Olympic Games were scheduled for February 6–22, 2026. The Paralympic Winter Games were scheduled for March 6–15, 2026. Those dates come from the Olympics.com Support FAQ; the event is over, so its former ticketing and session schedule are historical rather than invitations to attend.
The published schedule placed the opening ceremony at Milano San Siro Olympic Stadium and the closing ceremony at Verona Olympic Arena. The schedule was version 6, dated September 30, 2024; it records the plan, not a verified account of everything that ultimately took place.
Where were the Games held?
Milano Cortina was a multi-area Games, not a single-city event. The Olympics.com Support FAQ lists 15 venues across Milano, Cortina, Anterselva, Bormio, Livigno, Tesero, Predazzo, and Verona. Its list includes the opening- and closing-ceremony sites as well as competition venues.

Venue counts in planning material are not uniform: the Olympics.com Support FAQ lists 15, while an earlier Athlete365 event information pack says 13 competition venues. The 15-entry FAQ list includes ceremony sites, so the figures reflect different counting approaches and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Which sports and disciplines were included?

Who won the 2026 Winter Olympics?
A final medal table and verified headline winners are not established by the official sources cited here. The Olympics.com Support FAQs available for this guide cover pre-event information and do not provide final standings. The 116 figure in the 2024 schedule refers to planned medal events; it cannot be used to infer results.
The same distinction matters for participation figures: an Olympics.com Support FAQ gave a pre-event estimate of more than 3,500 athletes from 93 countries and 195 medals. Those are advance figures, not verified final participation totals or a final medal tally.

How could people watch—and can you still watch now?
Before the Games, Olympic guidance said broadcasting varied by territory and directed viewers to local providers. That general guidance does not establish which broadcasters currently offer replays or archives. For a replay, check the current official Olympic pages and the broadcaster serving the relevant country or territory; availability may differ by location and over time.
Viewing rights and replay availability are separate questions: a broadcaster that carried live coverage is not necessarily still offering an archive. The available guidance does not identify a single worldwide replay service.
How did athletes qualify, and who selected national teams?
Qualification was sport-specific. The Olympics.com Support FAQ directed readers to the applicable sport rules and international federations for qualification details, and said National Olympic Committees had the final say on team selections. That is useful context for how Olympic teams were assembled, but it is not a current qualification guide for an event that has concluded.
Who were the mascots?
Tina was the Olympic mascot and Milo the Paralympic mascot. Their names are shortened forms of Cortina and Milano. An Olympics.com shop search listing showed a Milano Cortina 2026 poster and a Tina mascot item; that listing does not establish present stock or the availability of any particular seller’s merchandise.
How was Milano Cortina selected as host?
The IOC reported the host selection on June 24, 2019. Milano Cortina received 47 votes to Stockholm–Åre’s 34. At the time, IOC President Thomas Bach said, “Congratulations to Milan-Cortina. We can look forward to outstanding and sustainable Olympic Winter Games in a traditional winter sports country.”
