Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a YouTube Live stream sent from OBS, set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. The reviewed YouTube guidance gives no India-specific exception: this is the same encoder target for a stream sent from India.
Set OBS to a 2-second keyframe interval
In OBS, find the keyframe interval in the active output or streaming encoder settings and enter 2 seconds. OBS labels and menus can vary by version and output mode; YouTube’s guidance establishes the target, but not a current, version-specific OBS menu path. Make sure you are changing the settings for the encoder actually sending the stream, rather than an inactive recording encoder.
- If OBS asks for seconds, enter 2.
- If the encoder asks for frames, multiply the frame rate by two. At 30 fps, use 60 frames; at 60 fps, the equivalent is 120 frames.
- Do not set the interval above 4 seconds. YouTube’s live encoder guidance says “Recommended 2 seconds” and “Do not exceed 4 seconds.”
YouTube’s live encoder settings page does not state a publication date for these recommendations. The answer here reflects the official help content available at the time it was reviewed; check YouTube’s current encoder guidance if its requirements change.
What keyframe interval means—and what it does not control
A keyframe is a reference frame in the encoded video. The interval, also called keyframe frequency, describes how often those reference frames are sent. GOP (group of pictures) is the related encoder term for a sequence of frames between keyframes. At 30 fps, a two-second interval means 60 frames between keyframes.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
This is separate from bitrate, resolution, frame rate, and codec. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS as ingest options, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 as video codec choices, frame rates up to 60 fps, and CBR bitrate encoding. Its recommended bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate; changing the keyframe interval is not a way to set or correct bitrate.
Check the other encoder settings independently
- Keyframes: 2 seconds; never exceed YouTube’s 4-second maximum.
- GOP: YouTube says its pipeline requires a closed GOP for optimal transcoding. If your encoder exposes an open/closed GOP option, choose closed.
- Bitrate: Select a value from YouTube’s current recommendation for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate, then make sure your upload connection can sustain it.
- Frame rate and resolution: Choose the intended output and ensure the computer and connection can handle it. YouTube lists frame rates up to 60 fps.
- Ingest protocol: Use a YouTube-supported RTMP or RTMPS setup as applicable to your encoder configuration.
Do not change codec, bitrate, or frame rate just to address a keyframe warning; first verify the GOP cadence itself.

Test before the event, including from India
- In OBS, apply the 2-second interval to the active streaming encoder.
- Run a YouTube test stream before going public. Include audio and movement representative of the real stream; a static screen alone may not reveal issues that appear with motion.
- Check YouTube’s stream health and any encoder messages while the test is running. YouTube advises testing with similar audio and movement and checking upload capacity with a speed test.
- If you change frame rate, check the interval again: YouTube says keyframe frequency must be adjusted so keyframes continue arriving every two seconds.
The interval recommendation does not guarantee a reliable connection. Upload capacity, routing, and local network conditions are separate concerns; test the connection from the place you will stream rather than assuming conditions are identical throughout India.
Troubleshooting keyframe warnings
YouTube says keyframes are too infrequent
Set the active encoder’s interval to 2 seconds and verify the actual output cadence. A value in the OBS interface alone does not prove that the encoded stream is delivering that cadence. YouTube notes that ingestion errors can result in incorrect GOP sizes, so use stream health and encoder messages to confirm whether the warning clears.

The setting is entered in frames, not seconds
Convert using the output frame rate: interval in frames = frame rate × interval in seconds. For YouTube’s two-second target, that is 60 frames at 30 fps or 120 frames at 60 fps. If you change the output frame rate, recalculate rather than leaving the old frame count in place.
The warning persists after changing the interval
- Confirm you edited the encoder used for streaming, not recording or another inactive output.
- Check whether the encoder is actually producing the selected GOP cadence; YouTube says ingest errors can affect GOP size.
- Check that the GOP is closed, as YouTube requires a closed GOP for optimal transcoding.
- Review YouTube stream health and messages during a fresh test instead of relying only on the configured value.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing live on YouTube around the clock, rather than to broadcast a live OBS production, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and does not replace the OBS steps above for a live production.
