You can run a rain-and-thunder stream on YouTube from an Indian laptop using OBS or another encoder, but the laptop, power supply and internet connection must stay available for the broadcast to continue. Enable live streaming, create a stream in YouTube Studio, enter its stream URL and key in your encoder, then test the quality and connection before going live. What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this before your planned launch. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the process.
- A laptop running an encoder such as OBS. YouTube supports software encoders on computers; OBS provides its own help portal.
- A rain-and-thunder recording that you created or have permission to use, plus a stable upload connection and a way to keep the laptop powered and awake.
YouTube’s guidance does not specify a minimum laptop model or guarantee uninterrupted operation for a given internet provider in India. Check upload capacity and power continuity where you plan to stream; do not assume a particular city, ISP, laptop or backup-power device will ensure 24/7 service.
Set up the stream in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream.
- Copy the stream URL (server URL) and stream key shown for that stream.
- In OBS or your chosen encoder, open the streaming settings and select YouTube or a custom streaming service as appropriate. Enter the URL and key, then save. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, and replace it if it is exposed.
- Load your rain-and-thunder video or scene in the encoder and check that both picture and sound are present. Start with a short test stream and inspect YouTube’s stream-health feedback before the public broadcast.

Choose resolution and bitrate for your connection
Set output quality according to what your laptop can encode and what your measured upload connection can sustain continuously. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include these video bitrates:

These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that an internet plan will deliver that upload rate without fluctuation. Run a speed test, leave headroom for network variation, then test using the actual video and audio you intend to broadcast. Keep a laptop-based broadcast running

- Keep the laptop plugged in and configure its power settings so it does not sleep during the broadcast.
- Place it on a hard, ventilated surface and keep air vents clear to reduce the risk of heat-related performance problems.
- Consider backup power or connectivity if an outage would matter, but treat these as mitigations rather than guarantees.
- Check the stream and encoder periodically, especially after changing settings or the source file.
These are practical precautions, not a promise of uninterrupted service: no India-specific ISP, power or laptop-endurance figures are established here.
Plan for replays and long broadcasts
Do not count on YouTube to save a single continuous 24-hour broadcast as a complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. If retaining the full recording matters, make a local recording backup. Another option is to end and schedule shorter sessions, but a restart is not a guarantee of a seamless viewer experience. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Use rain and thunder audio you have rights to use
Use your own field recording or content for which you have the necessary rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can replace the live image, interrupt the stream or terminate it. If you have a licence for third-party audio or visuals, check with the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel. A licence by itself may not prevent an automated interruption. Read YouTube’s pages on livestream terms and conditions and copyright issues with live streams.
Copyright permission and monetization are different questions
Having permission to use an audio recording does not itself establish that a channel qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies expect original, authentic content and can exclude repetitive or mass-produced material; reused-content review is separate from copyright permission. Make the channel’s own contribution clear through original recordings, meaningful variation, production or other authentic value, and do not assume that a loop or licence guarantees eligibility. Troubleshoot common problems
