Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo loop several local videos in OBS, add them to a VLC Video Source and leave Loop Playlist enabled. That makes the source restart the playlist when it reaches the end; it does not keep OBS, your computer, or your internet connection online by itself.
Set up a looping playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video Source. Match the versions: if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- Add the playlist source. In the OBS scene you intend to stream, add a VLC Video Source, open its properties, and add the media files to its playlist.
- Enable the loop. Leave Loop Playlist checked. OBS documents this setting as on by default; it restarts the source after it runs out of media files.
- Choose playback order. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want files played in randomized order. OBS documents shuffle as off by default.
- Check source visibility. With the documented default visibility behavior, playback stops when the source is not visible and restarts when it becomes visible. Keep the source visible in the active scene while streaming, or adjust its visibility behavior in the source properties if appropriate.
Use the right source for one video or several
For several files, use VLC Video Source and its Loop Playlist control. For one file that should replay, use a Media Source and its separate Loop setting. The single-file control and playlist control do different jobs.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
Playlist playback and delivery to YouTube are separate. Configure YouTube Live as the destination in your encoder: enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in OBS, then start sending output from the encoder. The playlist loop controls what the source plays; it does not reconnect OBS or repair a failed network connection.
Keep the stream key private. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement key before streaming again.

What looping does—and does not—keep running
- Playlist loop: restarts the VLC source after its list ends.
- Stream continuity: still relies on OBS running, the computer staying on, and a working connection delivering output to YouTube. Loop Playlist is not an uptime or automatic-recovery guarantee.
- Viewer rewind: YouTube says DVR pause and rewind features may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours, so do not promise viewers they can rewind the full duration of an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast.
Protect the recording and check YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the broadcast matters, make a separate local recording in OBS and ensure you have enough storage for it. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup.
Troubleshooting a playlist that will not loop
- VLC Video Source is missing: install VLC, then restart OBS if needed. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist stops at the end: open the VLC Video Source properties and check Loop Playlist.
- Only one file repeats, or multiple files do not play as expected: confirm you chose the right source. Use Media Source for one repeating file; use VLC Video Source for a multi-file playlist.
- Playback stops when you change scenes: check whether the source is visible in the active scene and review its visibility behavior. The default stops playback when hidden and restarts it when visible.
- The video loops but YouTube goes offline: the loop only governs media playback. Check that OBS is still running, the connection is active, and the destination settings and stream key are correct.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo runs the stream in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
