Test YouTube’s preview and reception status before going live, and plan how you will monitor interruptions and preserve recordings longer than 12 hours. A music license alone may not prevent a takedown: the rights holder may also need to allowlist your channel through Content ID.
1. Clear the rights for the music and recordings
Do this before assembling the playlist or configuring the stream. Indian classical music is not automatically exempt from copyright rules. A composition, a particular performance, and the sound recording can involve different rights. Confirm that your permission covers the exact recordings, continuous live streaming, any archived replay, and the territories where viewers may watch. This is not a determination of Indian copyright permissions for any specific raga, composition, performance, or recording.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may replace the feed with a placeholder, and unresolved use can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a stream. YouTube Help explains these policies in Copyright issues with live streams.
If you have a license for music that may be registered with Content ID, ask the rights owner or its representative to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before you go live. YouTube says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, even when the stream is restricted to territories covered by the license. YouTube for Artists also recommends coordinating with the label or distributor when using protected music: Going live for music channels.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep records of the permissions, territories, dates, allowed live and replay uses, and the channel identifier supplied for allowlisting. These records help you confirm that the planned use matches the grant and follow up if a claim occurs.
2. Enable live streaming before the planned start
- Sign in to the YouTube account that owns the channel.
- Choose Create → Go live → Enable, then complete phone verification if prompted.
- Allow at least 24 hours before your first planned live stream. YouTube for Artists describes this as a first-time activation step; it is not a new 24-hour wait before every broadcast.
If the live option is unavailable, check that you are on the intended channel and that first-time activation has been completed. YouTube’s current account interface may change, so follow the labels shown in YouTube Studio.

3. Create the broadcast and prepare a continuous feed
YouTube recommends using an encoder for more customization and control than a basic mobile or webcam stream. For an Indian classical music feed, the encoder sends the playlist’s audio and any accompanying visual to YouTube continuously. Choose a visual treatment that you have rights to use as well as music you have cleared.
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live, then create or schedule a stream. Enter its title, description, audience and privacy settings.
- Open the stream’s settings and copy the stream key. Treat it as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Paste it into the encoder’s YouTube destination or stream configuration.
- Load the cleared recordings into a playlist in the order you want them played. Configure the encoder or playback workflow to continue through the list and repeat it without an unintended pause. Confirm the playlist can run for the period you intend to stay live.
- Start the encoder’s outgoing feed. In YouTube Studio, wait for the preview and signal-reception indication before selecting Go live. YouTube’s API documentation describes the stream status
activeas indicating that YouTube is receiving data from the encoder. - Keep the Studio page or another monitoring method available after going live so you can notice warnings, a dropped signal, or a copyright interruption.
At the API level, YouTube separates a liveStream resource, which holds delivery settings for the encoder, from a broadcast resource; a broadcast is bound to a stream. Google documents a 24/7 scenario in which a continuous broadcast can remain running while a separate interview broadcast ends. That is API-level guidance, not a requirement for an ordinary Studio setup. See Understanding broadcasts and streams and Life of a Broadcast.

4. Plan monitoring, recovery and archives
Keep the signal path under observation
The documented setup depends on an encoder sending data to YouTube. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a minimum internet speed, computer specification, guaranteed uptime, or recommended device for every encoding profile. Choose equipment and connectivity based on the actual feed you intend to send, then test the full playlist and visual before relying on it for a long session. Have a way to detect a stopped encoder or lost connection and restart the feed.
Decide how to preserve streams longer than 12 hours
Google’s live production guide says streams up to 12 hours are automatically archived and advises recording longer streams for manual upload. The available guide copy did not show a revision date, so verify the current YouTube Studio guidance before promising that a stream longer than 12 hours will produce one uninterrupted replay. You can read the guide at Full live production guide.

YouTube Help says Content ID claims on an archived live stream are made after the live stream is completed, if you choose to archive it. An archive is therefore not a substitute for clearance of the recordings.

The practical choice is between maintaining an encoder on a local computer and using a hosted cloud service. The sources above establish YouTube’s encoder workflow but do not test or rank third-party providers. Compare options on whether they can sustain your chosen audiovisual feed, how they monitor and restart it, what control you retain over the stream key and playlist, and the ongoing cost and dependence on your own electricity and internet connection.

Troubleshooting common interruptions
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream | First-time activation or verification is incomplete | Complete the live-stream enablement and phone-verification steps, then allow the first-time activation period before the planned broadcast. |
| YouTube does not show a preview or receiving status | The encoder is not sending data to the selected stream | Check that it is running, uses the intended stream key, and is sending to the correct YouTube destination. Wait for YouTube to receive the signal before going live. |
| The feed is replaced, interrupted or terminated | YouTube detected third-party content, or the stream encountered a policy issue | Review YouTube Studio alerts and the rights for the exact recording. If licensed music is involved, confirm the relevant channel allowlisting with the rights owner; stop using content you cannot verify is cleared. |
| The encoder stops sending or the broadcast drops | The local encoder or connection may have stopped, or YouTube may have ended the connection | Check the encoder and its outgoing signal, restore the feed, and monitor Studio for the receiving status. Keep a recovery plan for the system that must remain online. |
| A very long stream has no single complete archive | The archive may exceed YouTube’s stated automatic-archiving window | Check current Studio guidance, retain a local recording for a stream expected to exceed 12 hours, and upload it manually if needed. |
What audience figures do—and do not—tell you
YouTube for Artists reported that over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That is a platform-wide figure, not an India-specific statistic or a forecast of demand for Indian classical music. It can provide context for the format, but it does not predict the audience for an individual channel.
