To keep recorded Konkani church services playing continuously on YouTube, send a looping video or playlist from an encoder such as OBS to YouTube Live. For a basic setup, use OBS on a computer that can stay powered on and connected to the internet. First make sure the channel is eligible to stream, allow time for YouTube’s first-time activation, and confirm that the church has the necessary online and replay rights for every recording.
What a continuous YouTube stream requires
A continuous broadcast is an encoder sending video to YouTube Live; uploading a normal video does not turn it into a live stream. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. The encoder must remain connected and keep sending the recording or playlist for the broadcast to continue. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the Live Control Room workflow.
For a church starting with existing recordings, OBS Studio can loop one local video or use a VLC playlist to rotate through several. This avoids buying a dedicated streaming appliance, but the computer, media files, power, and internet connection all need to remain available.
Check channel eligibility and prepare the recordings
Confirm the channel can go live
- Verify the YouTube channel and check that it has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says initial live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave the first test until the day of a planned public launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Run a test broadcast before announcing the continuous stream. Check the preview, sound, framing, and stream stability in Live Control Room.
- Choose whether the broadcast should be public, unlisted, or private. YouTube says visibility can be changed in Live Control Room.
Review each service recording
Before adding files to OBS, check that speech and music are audible, the video has the intended aspect ratio, service details are legible, and there are no unwanted blank or silent openings and endings. These are practical production checks: an encoder will repeat what is in the file, including gaps or mistakes.

Decide whether viewers should see the same service repeatedly or a sequence of different recordings. A single-file loop is simpler; a playlist gives viewers variety but requires the team to maintain its order and contents.
Set up OBS to loop a recorded service
- Install OBS Studio on the computer that will run the broadcast, and place the service recording somewhere the computer can access reliably. OBS documents common video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM; check the current OBS Media Sources guide for supported media-source behavior.
- Add the recording as a Media Source. In the OBS scene, add a Media Source, select the video file, and enable Loop. Preview the scene and confirm the video fills the intended frame without cropping important service information.
- Set up the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or select a stream. In OBS, use the YouTube service option if available, or copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube’s encoder settings into OBS.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, include it in a recording or screenshot, or share it beyond the people who must configure the encoder. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm the incoming picture and sound in Live Control Room. Once the preview is correct, start the YouTube broadcast using the Live Control Room controls.
- Keep the setup running. The computer must stay on, OBS must remain open and streaming, and the internet connection and power must remain available. Assign a volunteer to check Live Control Room and respond if the broadcast stops.
For exact encoder controls and the YouTube-side stream workflow, use YouTube’s encoder instructions. Keep OBS and the source recording available locally; this setup does not continue if the computer shuts down or loses its connection.

Loop several services with an OBS playlist
- Install VLC on the same computer as OBS; OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed.
- Create and order a playlist of the service recordings in VLC, then add a VLC Video source in OBS and point it to the playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist, preview the transitions, and verify that each item plays with the expected picture and audio.
- Use the same YouTube stream-key and Live Control Room steps as for a single recording. Keep the playlist files and paths unchanged while the broadcast is running.
OBS documents both single-file looping and playlist playback in its Media Sources guide. If a playlist item is moved, renamed, or removed from the computer, the VLC source may no longer be able to play it.
Clear rights before streaming church services
Do not assume that permission to perform a hymn in church, record a service, or share a local recording also covers continuous YouTube streaming or an archived replay. For every recording, check rights for the video and audio, online streaming, repeated broadcast, intended territories, and replay availability. Pay particular attention to hymns, translations, arrangements, accompaniment tracks, photographs, and embedded recordings. Rights depend on the actual work, recording, license, and territories; the sources here do not establish permission for any particular Konkani hymn, church, recording, or country. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including other broadcasts. It may replace a stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. YouTube also warns that a stream containing licensed third-party material can still be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. If a stream is interrupted, check Studio for copyright or Community Guidelines restrictions; for licensed material, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add the channel to the allowlist. Plan archives and monitoring
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that an indefinitely running broadcast will be preserved as one complete replay. Decide how long each broadcast segment should run, then check the resulting archive and its visibility in Studio.

A continuous stream still needs human oversight. Decide who will check the Live Control Room, how often they will check it, and who can restart OBS or address a power or internet problem. If the stream stops, the recording itself may be fine; the encoder or connection may have failed.
