First confirm you have permission to rebroadcast the exact recordings; then enable YouTube Live, configure the encoder with the stream URL and private stream key, and test the stream before relying on it. A VPS keeps the process independent of your home computer, but it does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted delivery or make the recordings eligible for monetization.
1. Confirm you have the rights to rebroadcast the lectures
Before setting up a server, identify the specific IIT, course, recording and rights holder. Check the license supplied with the recordings and obtain any authorization needed to retransmit them on YouTube. Confirm the permission covers the territories where viewers may watch and, if you plan to leave replays available, archived copies too.
- Do not assume that a lecture is free to rebroadcast because it is publicly available, educational, or already posted on YouTube.
- If the recording may match YouTube Content ID, ask the rights holder whether they can allowlist your channel.
- YouTube’s livestream terms say, “The Live Content must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.” Read YouTube’s livestream terms.
Technical ability to stream a file is not evidence of copyright permission. Monetization is a separate question: permission to use a recording does not automatically make a channel eligible to earn from a minimally changed rebroadcast.
2. Prepare YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room. Create a stream in the Stream tab, or schedule it under Manage. YouTube requires live streaming to be enabled for the channel; first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key as a password: keep it private, use a placeholder in examples, and store the actual value in a restricted configuration or secret—not in a public script or repository.
- For an initial test, use a private or unlisted stream if that suits your channel and audience. Check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room before publishing the intended broadcast.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That matters for a 24/7 schedule: do not assume one uninterrupted broadcast will be archived as a single complete video. Plan how you will handle stream segmentation and any replays. See YouTube’s encoder setup and archive guidance.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Set up the Linux VPS and encoder
Choose a VPS for the actual workload
The VPS hosts Linux, the media files if you store them there, and the encoder process. There is no universal CPU, memory, disk or bandwidth specification for this job: requirements depend on whether you copy or transcode the media, the selected output bitrate, file sizes and your VPS provider’s limits. If the files are already suitable for the stream, avoiding transcoding can reduce CPU demand, but verify the input and output behavior rather than assuming they match.
Install FFmpeg using a method appropriate for your Linux distribution, then check the installed build and inspect each input’s video codec, resolution, frame rate and audio tracks before choosing an encoding configuration. YouTube documents the encoder workflow generally; it does not endorse a universal FFmpeg command for every file.

Use a schematic command only after checking the media
The following illustrates the shape of an FFmpeg push command, not a tested, universal recipe. Replace the placeholders with values appropriate to your file and YouTube stream; confirm the options are supported by your installed FFmpeg build and validate the result in Live Control Room.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "lecture.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -c:a aac
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
The example loops one file and uses an RTMPS-shaped destination, but the ingest URL and key must come from your stream’s YouTube setup. Do not paste a real key into a public script or share it in logs. A playlist, multiple files, or different codecs may require different FFmpeg input and mapping options; inspect the output and test your exact arrangement.

Keep the process running and observable
A service supervisor such as systemd can start an encoder at boot and restart it after the process exits. That is a recovery mechanism for process failure, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming: it does not establish VPS availability, network continuity, valid media, or successful YouTube ingest. Validate reconnect behavior for your setup and arrange monitoring or alerts so you can notice a stopped or unhealthy stream.
4. Match YouTube’s ingest settings
YouTube currently supports RTMP or RTMPS delivery and recommends RTMPS. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. Choose a bitrate from YouTube’s current table for the resolution, frame rate and codec you are using rather than copying an unrelated tutorial’s number.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Transport: Use the RTMPS ingest URL supplied for the stream. RTMPS is RTMP carried through SSL/TLS; YouTube’s API documentation specifies an RTMPS ingestion endpoint on port 443.
- Video: Match the selected codec and resolution to the source and the bitrate guidance for that combination. Do not assume transcoding is needed—or that it is not—until you have checked the input.
- Rate control and keyframes: Use CBR and set a 2-second keyframe interval where your encoder permits it; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: Use AAC or MP3 and verify that the selected track is present and synchronized in the preview.
Consult YouTube’s current live encoder settings for its bitrate table and full setting guidance. The RTMPS endpoint and port details are in YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion documentation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.5. Test before scheduling a 24/7 broadcast
- Start with a short private or unlisted test where appropriate.
- Inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Confirm the intended video, audio track, synchronization and output settings.
- Test what happens if the encoder exits or the connection drops. Confirm that your process supervisor restarts the encoder where intended, and check whether it reconnects successfully to YouTube.
- Only after the test behaves as expected, schedule or publish the continuous stream. Keep monitoring and alerting in place; a running process alone is not proof that viewers are receiving a healthy stream.
Copyright and monetization are separate checks
YouTube says monetization is available for live streams to channels in the YouTube Partner Program, subject to its policies. Its reused-content monetization policy applies to live streams: material that is minimally changed or repetitive may be ineligible when it adds little original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. A rights holder’s permission does not guarantee monetization eligibility. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Copyright systems may interrupt a stream, and third-party licensing arrangements may require the rights holder to allowlist your channel. Resolve rights and any Content ID arrangements before broadcasting; do not treat a successful technical test as clearance.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not maintain a Linux server and encoder, StreamNeo runs uploaded prerecorded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream from the cloud:
- Upload the recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; the cloud loops the videos, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not live camera input; you still need the rights to broadcast your lecture recordings.
