To manage a 24/7 YouTube music stream key safely in OBS, treat it like a password: select or create the key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, enter it only in OBS’s stream settings, keep it out of anything public, and reset it promptly if it may have been exposed. The key authorizes an encoder to send a feed to your channel; it does not itself keep a stream running continuously.
What a YouTube stream key does—and why it needs protection
YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” The key tells YouTube which encoder can send a feed, while the server URL is a separate setting. Anyone who can use an exposed key may be able to send a feed through it, so handle the key as a credential rather than ordinary setup text. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings
These steps apply to a YouTube music stream sent through OBS. YouTube’s published guidance establishes how to select and reset keys and how to prepare an encoder; it does not document OBS-specific secret-storage internals or promise uninterrupted 24/7 service.
Set up the key in YouTube Studio and OBS

In YouTube Studio, choose Go Live to open Live Control Room, then select the Stream tab. Create a custom stream key if you need a reusable key, or select the existing key intended for this broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow also allows creators to reuse prior stream settings.

In OBS, open the stream settings and select YouTube as the service if applicable. Enter YouTube’s server URL in the Server field and the selected key in the Stream Key field. Keep these values in their respective fields; the server URL and key are not interchangeable.

Before starting a new broadcast, verify which key OBS is set to use. Reusing YouTube stream settings carries the previous key, so do not assume a new stream setup has selected a different credential.

Start with a private or otherwise appropriate test workflow, check the Live Control Room preview, and confirm the expected video and audio before relying on the setup for continuous playback. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance, previewing, testing backup-encoder failover, and monitoring audio and video. YouTube Help: Encoder streaming
Keep the key out of public and shared places
The following handling practices are prudent because the key functions as a credential. They are not a detailed OBS security checklist published by YouTube.

Do not show the key in screenshots, tutorials, livestream scenes, overlays, public chat, or messages and shared documents that other people can access.

Restrict access to the YouTube channel and to accounts or machines that can open the OBS configuration containing the key. YouTube advises: “Admin access for your channel should only be given to who you trust.” YouTube Help: Streaming tips

When sharing an OBS setup for troubleshooting, remove or replace the key first. Avoid posting configuration material that could reveal it.

When reusing stream settings, check the selected key before going live; the previous key may carry over.

Rotate the key if it may have been exposed

Open YouTube Studio, choose Go Live, and go to the Stream tab in Live Control Room.

Reset the affected stream key. YouTube says channel owners and managers can reset a key; editors and viewers cannot.

Copy the replacement key into OBS’s Stream Key field. Keep the server URL in its separate field.

Reconnect the encoder and confirm in Live Control Room that the new feed arrives. If OBS does not connect, verify that it uses the replacement key rather than a previously saved value. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings

Plan for continuity separately from key security
A correctly handled key does not guarantee a continuous broadcast. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder ahead of time, previewing the feed, testing backup-encoder failover, and monitoring audio and video. Build those checks into your operating plan, and decide who can respond if the encoder or feed stops. The cited guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 availability.
YouTube states a channel can have up to 10 active streams and a stream key up to 3 active streams; the page consulted did not provide a publication year, so recheck the current limit in YouTube Help. YouTube also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived in its encoder instructions. That statement does not establish that a continuous stream longer than 12 hours will be archived in the same way.
Copyright and music-stream considerations
Stream-key security and music rights are separate issues. A working key does not establish that you have permission to use the music in a livestream. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for the tracks and the intended use before broadcasting; the YouTube encoder guidance cited here does not determine the copyright status of music in your stream.
