You can loop a rights-cleared Kannada music video from a Linux VPS to YouTube Live with FFmpeg. Create a continuous media file, copy the ingest URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, and send the file to YouTube using an encoder configuration that matches your stream. FFmpeg can repeat the file, but it cannot grant music rights or guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
Before you start: clear the music rights
Use only songs and visuals you are authorized to livestream. Your permissions should cover the relevant territories and uses, including livestreaming, any retained archive or video on demand, and monetization if you plan to monetize. Keep written license evidence. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask whether your channel must be allowlisted.
YouTube makes the channel operator responsible for the necessary rights, including music licensing. Its livestream terms and conditions say providers warrant they have the rights needed to exploit live content worldwide. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content; a stream can be interrupted even when you have a license if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. A purchase, an online “free” label, or an attribution line alone does not establish livestreaming rights.
No particular Kannada song, album, label, or catalogue is verified here as cleared. Confirm rights with the relevant rights holder before you broadcast.

Prepare a continuous media file
For a first setup, make one video file containing the authorized playlist and a still image or other visual you may use. A single file is simpler to feed continuously than coordinating separate audio files and a visual input. Use editing software that can export a compatible video and audio file; the exact build process depends on your source files and chosen editor.
Check the exported file before uploading it to the VPS: confirm it plays from beginning to end, has the intended track order and transitions, and contains no unlicensed artwork or other material. Choose a resolution and frame rate you can encode and upload reliably. If you instead use a multi-file playlist with a separate visual, you will need to manage ordering, transitions, missing or damaged files, and synchronization; those are implementation tradeoffs rather than performance differences established for particular playlist tools.

Create a YouTube Live stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream, following the options shown for your account.
- In the stream’s encoder settings, copy the server URL (ingest URL) and stream key. YouTube may show different ingest choices, so use the exact URL and settings displayed in your Live Control Room.
- Keep the stream key secret. Do not put a real key in a tutorial, public repository, shell history, or publicly readable logs. Store it in a root-readable configuration or environment file, or another secret mechanism. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update your encoder.
- Start FFmpeg and check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, use Studio’s go-live control when the preview is ready.
Choose encoder settings that match YouTube
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. It lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and frame rates up to 60 fps. Use a supported combination shown in YouTube’s live encoder settings and the options displayed in your Live Control Room.
For H.264, YouTube’s published recommended ingest rates include these examples. They are platform recommendations, not results from a VPS performance test; other frame rates and codecs have different recommendations.

| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
Choose the output resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate together. The VPS needs sustained upload capacity above the selected stream bitrate, with headroom for network variation. Test the actual VPS-to-YouTube route and check YouTube’s health indicators before relying on a long broadcast. There is no universal bitrate that is correct for every output.
Run a continuous FFmpeg stream
The following is a starting example for a compatible single-file source, not a certified production recipe. Replace the input path, ingest URL, and key with your own values. The example uses H.264 at 30 fps and 4,500 kbps; adjust its resolution and bitrate to a matching YouTube recommendation and your measured upload capacity.

Use the exact RTMPS ingest URL supplied by YouTube; do not copy the placeholder URL literally.
The command assumes the installed FFmpeg build includes the required input support and the libx264 encoder. Check your build and its available encoders before relying on it; FFmpeg documentation is version-specific: FFmpeg command-line documentation. Confirm that YouTube receives the expected picture and audio in a test stream before going public.
Keep the VPS process operating and observable
A looping input only handles playback. The VPS, network route, FFmpeg process, YouTube account, and ingest connection can each fail independently. Run FFmpeg under a process supervisor such as systemd or another service manager rather than leaving it in an interactive shell. Configure a restart policy, restrict access to the stream key, and use log rotation so logs do not grow without limit.

- Monitor process status, CPU use, network connectivity, and upload performance.
- Set alerts for process exits or loss of connectivity, and decide who will respond.
- After a restart, check Live Control Room’s preview and stream health. A running FFmpeg process does not prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy broadcast.
- Test recovery deliberately before depending on the setup; a supervisor can restart a process but cannot guarantee YouTube availability or account standing.
Exact CPU, RAM, bandwidth charges, and continuous-service guarantees depend on the VPS provider and configuration; no particular vendor or VPS size is established here. Measure the workload and route you actually use.
Plan for archives separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance. For an always-on station, consider separate, shorter broadcast sessions if you need YouTube archives, and keep a separate local recording or archive backup if the recording matters. An optional external drive can hold a local backup; YouTube does not prescribe a storage type or capacity.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Incorrect ingest URL or key, a hidden key character, or an unsupported ingest choice | Copy the current URL and key again from Live Control Room; verify the key is stored securely and reset it if exposed. |
| Stream health reports instability | Upload capacity or route quality is insufficient for the chosen bitrate | Check the VPS’s sustained upload performance, lower the output to a suitable YouTube-listed setting, and retest. |
| FFmpeg exits immediately | Bad input path, incompatible or damaged media, or unavailable encoder in the installed build | Check the file path and playback, inspect the FFmpeg error output, and confirm the required encoder is available. |
| Picture or sound is missing or wrong | Unexpected source streams, unsupported media, or an output configuration mismatch | Test the source file locally, review FFmpeg’s input and output stream details, and verify the preview in Live Control Room. |
| Live broadcast is interrupted over a song | Rights claim, missing permission, or Content ID allowlisting issue | Stop or resolve the stream as appropriate; contact the rights holder, confirm the license covers the use, and ask about channel allowlisting. |
| FFmpeg restarts but the broadcast is still unhealthy | The process recovered but the ingest or YouTube session did not | Check the preview and health indicators in Live Control Room; follow the account’s available controls to recover the live session. |
