A playlist is a collection of videos; YouTube describes Watch Page ad and Premium revenue in relation to eligible videos. If your own eligible, monetized video is in a playlist, it may earn revenue under the applicable rules. Simply creating a playlist—or adding other creators’ videos to one—does not establish that you earn from it.
What earns money: the videos, not the playlist
YouTube’s guidance describes Watch Page ads as ads that may appear before, during, after, and around videos. It provides controls for enabling monetization on eligible videos; it does not identify playlist creation or curation as a separate monetization feature. So the careful answer is that a playlist is not documented as its own revenue-generating asset. A playlist may help viewers find videos and keep watching, but that does not itself give the playlist curator a share of revenue.
YouTube’s public guidance does not spell out a playlist-specific formula for attributing ad revenue or allocating payment. Avoid treating an ad shown during playlist playback as proof that the playlist owner will be paid.
When a video in a playlist may earn
A video in a playlist may earn Watch Page ad or YouTube Premium revenue if the channel and video satisfy the relevant requirements. The video’s presence in a playlist does not change those requirements.

- The channel must be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) at the level required for Watch Page ads.
- The creator must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module for eligible long-form or live content.
- Monetization must be enabled for the individual eligible video in YouTube Studio.
- The video must meet YouTube’s monetization and advertiser-friendly rules, and the creator must have the necessary rights to its audio and visual material.
Even when monetization is enabled, an ad is not guaranteed on every playback, and YouTube does not guarantee a particular payment amount.
YPP thresholds: fan-funding access is not Watch Page ad eligibility
YouTube describes two relevant eligibility levels. The lower, expanded YPP threshold can unlock certain features, such as memberships, Supers, and Shopping, in eligible locations and subject to feature-specific rules. It does not by itself qualify a channel for Watch Page ads.

Who gets paid in common playlist situations?
Your own eligible video is in the playlist
The video may earn through Watch Page ads or Premium viewing if your channel and video meet the requirements, you have accepted the relevant terms, and monetization is enabled. Playlist placement alone does not create revenue.

The playlist contains videos uploaded by other channels
Do not assume you receive revenue from those videos. YouTube’s public guidance describes earnings in connection with a partner’s monetized content and applicable agreements; it does not establish a general entitlement for third-party playlist curators to share revenue.
An ad appears while someone watches the playlist
The ad’s appearance does not show that the playlist owner earned money. YouTube may serve ads on content even when the uploader is not eligible to share revenue, and payment depends on the applicable eligibility and agreements.

A video has monetization turned on
That setting does not mean an ad will appear on every view or that the video will earn a specific amount. Revenue depends on actual ad revenue and applicable terms.
