For an existing video file, start with a desktop encoder workflow such as OBS; Larix Broadcaster is positioned by YouTube as a mobile app for capturing and streaming live, especially from a phone. Neither is established here as a dedicated unattended service for continuously looping prerecorded videos. If your goal is 24/7 cloud playback rather than an attended encoder session, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Which should you choose for a prerecorded video?
Choose based on where the video comes from and whether someone will operate the stream:
- OBS: a desktop-encoder workflow is the more natural place to begin evaluating an existing video file. YouTube supports encoder-based streams for software and hardware encoders, but the available evidence here does not establish current OBS file-source controls or justify a precise feature-by-feature verdict.
- Larix Broadcaster: consider it when the source is a phone camera or another mobile live-capture workflow. YouTube’s verified encoder directory lists Larix for iOS and Android and describes it as a mobile app for capturing and streaming live.
- StreamNeo: consider it when you want prerecorded videos to loop on YouTube continuously without leaving a local computer or phone running. It is a cloud service for uploaded videos, not camera streaming.
There is no head-to-head performance test establishing which encoder is faster, more reliable, or better quality for this job. YouTube’s documentation describes encoder workflows generally; it does not settle the OBS-versus-Larix comparison for prerecorded files.
What differs between Larix and OBS?
| Question | Larix Broadcaster | OBS |
|---|---|---|
| Typical source indicated by official descriptions | YouTube lists it as a mobile app for capturing and streaming live; its directory entry covers iOS and Android. | Desktop encoder workflow is a sensible starting point to evaluate for an existing video file, but current file-source controls are not established by the accessible official documentation here. |
| Where the workflow runs | On a mobile device. | On a computer running an encoder. |
| YouTube connection details | Larix documentation explains combining YouTube’s RTMP server URL and stream key into a connection URL. | YouTube’s general encoder setup requires the server URL and stream key; exact current OBS steps should be checked in OBS’s documentation. |
| Best-fit production question | Are you capturing a live phone input? | Are you producing from a computer, potentially with screen sharing or other inputs supported by encoder workflows? |
| Continuous unattended playback | Not established as a Larix use case in the cited descriptions. | Not established as an OBS capability by the accessible documentation here. |
YouTube notes that encoder workflows can support screen sharing, external audio/video hardware, and more advanced productions. Those are general encoder use cases, not proof that one of these two products is better for every production.

How to send a video-based encoder stream to YouTube
- Enable live streaming and create the event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and review the stream settings in Live Control Room. YouTube says first-time live-streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Copy the current connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key shown for your stream. YouTube’s encoder instructions say to enter both in the encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast on your channel.
- Configure the encoder you chose. Enter the current URL and key in the encoder’s streaming settings. For Larix, Softvelum documents using the YouTube RTMP server URL and stream key together in the connection URL; copy the current value from your own Live Control Room rather than relying on a hard-coded address. For OBS, verify the current file-source and streaming-setting steps in its documentation, since interface details can change.
- Start the encoder and verify the incoming preview. Check Live Control Room to confirm that YouTube receives the stream. If the event is scheduled, YouTube instructs broadcasters to start the encoder, wait for the preview, then click Go live in Live Control Room.
- End the broadcast deliberately. Stop the encoder and end the stream using the relevant Live Control Room controls. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after the encoder stops sending content.
When a cloud service fits better
If the requirement is a scheduled one-off broadcast with an operator present, an encoder workflow may be sufficient. If you need a prerecorded video or playlist to keep playing continuously while your home computer is off, YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based 24/7 option for prerecorded videos. Confirm its current capabilities and terms independently before choosing it.
For this use case, StreamNeo is the first cloud alternative to try: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every slot includes one always-on YouTube stream, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots. The same product applies at every billing length; quality is whatever you upload, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tier.

- Go live; StreamNeo loops the content from its cloud service.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps is included at one price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Visit StreamNeo or start the free first day.
What to check before going live
- Copyright: make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for the video, music, and other material in the recording. A live encoder does not grant rights to rebroadcast copyrighted material.
- YouTube rules: review YouTube’s current live-stream and channel monetization policies, including any rules relevant to reused content. A stream being technically successful does not guarantee policy compliance or monetization.
- Correct event and key: ensure the key and server URL belong to the intended event. If the stream connects to the wrong event or no preview appears, recheck Live Control Room rather than guessing a server address.
- Attendance: decide whether someone will monitor the encoder and Live Control Room. A locally run encoder depends on its device and connection remaining available; unattended continuous playback is a different use case from a scheduled encoder stream.
Troubleshooting
YouTube does not show an incoming preview
Check that the encoder is running and that both the server URL and stream key match the current event in Live Control Room. For Larix, verify the connection URL is assembled from the current YouTube values. Do not substitute an old example URL for the value YouTube currently provides.

The event is scheduled but viewers cannot watch
YouTube’s scheduled-stream workflow requires the encoder to start and a preview to appear in Live Control Room; then use its Go live control. Starting the encoder alone may not publish the scheduled event.
Live streaming is unavailable on a newly enabled channel
YouTube says initial live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. If you have just enabled it, allow for that processing window before diagnosing the encoder as the cause.

The broadcast ends but no archive appears
YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours after the encoder stops sending content. Do not assume the same automatic-archive behavior for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer; check YouTube’s current guidance for that case.
