To run a 24/7 GATE preparation stream, send recorded lectures to YouTube Live through an encoder that plays a prepared video or playlist continuously. YouTube Studio supplies the stream URL and private stream key; the encoder sends the live feed. For a local setup, the computer, encoder, source files, power and internet connection must stay available. If you want YouTube to preserve a replay, plan shorter broadcasts: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as archives.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has live streaming enabled and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. YouTube supports streaming with an encoder. YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.
- Recorded GATE lectures that you are authorized to broadcast, plus an encoder that can play a file or sequence and send its output to YouTube Live.
- A reliable upload connection and, for a local encoder, a computer that can remain on for the broadcast.
- A plan for whether lectures will play once, repeat, or advance through a playlist—and whether you need a YouTube replay or a separate local recording.
YouTube’s official setup documentation explains how to connect an encoder, but it does not prescribe one universal way to loop files. The loop, playlist and transition controls depend on the encoder you choose.
How to stream recorded lectures live on YouTube
- Prepare and test the lecture programme. Arrange your lecture files in the order you want, and configure the encoder to repeat a lecture or advance through the sequence as needed. Test a full transition between files and check that picture and audio remain in sync. Make sure the source files remain accessible for the whole run.
- Enable live streaming on the channel. Complete channel verification and request live-stream access before launch. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation. Check that the channel has no live-streaming restriction from the preceding 90 days. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Create → Go Live and create a stream, or schedule one from the Manage tab. Scheduling gives you a watch page that you can promote and lets viewers set reminders. In the Live Control Room, retrieve the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. YouTube Help: Connect your encoder and go live.
- Configure the encoder. Enter YouTube’s server URL and the stream key in the encoder’s streaming settings. Select an output resolution and bitrate that your encoder and upload connection can sustain; use YouTube’s current encoder settings for the supported profile and bitrate guidance. YouTube transcodes the incoming feed for different devices and network conditions.
- Start the feed and inspect the preview. Start playback and streaming in the encoder. For a scheduled broadcast, wait until the Live Control Room preview appears, then check video, audio and stream health before selecting Go live. Do a test ahead of the intended launch rather than discovering a file, audio or connection problem in front of viewers. YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Verify from a viewer’s perspective. Open the watch page on another device, including a phone if mobile viewing matters. Confirm that the picture and sound are present, the stream is accessible to the intended audience and the playlist advances or repeats correctly. Keep monitoring the encoder, source playlist and connection while it runs.
How to keep a YouTube Live stream running continuously
With a local encoder
A local setup can use encoder software and a computer you already own. For the stream to continue, the host computer, encoder process, source storage, power and upload connection all need to remain available. Disable sleep and automatic shutdown, keep the lecture files accessible, and check that the encoder’s loop or playlist behavior survives file transitions. A failure in any one of these can interrupt the feed.
YouTube recommends testing ahead of time and monitoring the stream. If you are also recording locally, keep an eye on the archive file’s growth and confirm that you have enough storage for the planned run. An external drive can be useful for retaining source lectures or local recordings, but it is not required to connect an encoder to YouTube.

Plan reconnection and monitoring
Decide who will notice an interruption and how the encoder will be restarted if the computer, power or network fails. Check the Live Control Room’s stream health and the viewing page periodically; a successful start does not guarantee an uninterrupted day-long broadcast. YouTube documents encoder connection and monitoring, but the reconnect behavior depends on the encoder and setup you use.
One long broadcast or shorter scheduled streams?
Continuity is convenient for viewers, but YouTube’s archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving replays matters, plan distinct broadcasts shorter than 12 hours and schedule the transitions. Keep a local recording as a backup if you need a copy regardless of whether YouTube creates an archive. YouTube Help: Find and watch live streams.

Copyright, reused content and monetization
Confirm rights for everything in the stream
Permission to use the lecture recording does not necessarily cover every element in it. Check the rights for the lecturer’s recording, slides, embedded clips, images, music, and student or guest contributions and likenesses where relevant. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for the necessary rights on the broadcaster, including music licensing rights. YouTube Terms of Service.
Third-party content can lead to a warning to stop streaming or an interruption. If the broadcast stops, check the Studio dashboard for policy or copyright notifications. Do not assume that educational purpose alone clears copyrighted material for a live broadcast.

Repeated lectures and channel monetization
Looping a lecture you have permission to use does not guarantee that YouTube will consider the channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and include rules on inauthentic (repetitive or mass-produced) content and reused content; permission from a rightsholder does not by itself resolve those policy questions. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies for your channel and content.
If the channel is eligible, Live Control Room features can include ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Check eligibility and settings in the Live Control Room rather than treating monetization as automatic. YouTube Help: Monetize your live stream.

Common problems and fixes
- Live streaming is not available in Studio: verify the channel and enable live streaming in advance. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours; also check for a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days.
- The encoder connects but no preview appears: confirm that the server URL and stream key match the current broadcast, that the encoder is sending, and that the output profile follows YouTube’s current settings. Check the Live Control Room’s stream-health information.
- The stream starts but the lecture does not repeat: verify the encoder’s loop or playlist setting and test the file transition before the real broadcast. Loop controls are encoder-specific, not a control in the YouTube player.
- Viewers report missing audio, a frozen picture or poor playback: inspect the source file and encoder output, then check stream health and whether the upload connection can sustain the selected profile. Test from another device and consult YouTube’s current encoder guidance before changing resolution or bitrate.
- The broadcast stops unexpectedly: check the local computer, encoder process, power, source storage and upload connection, as well as YouTube Studio notifications. These are separate dependencies; finding and fixing the failed one is necessary before restarting.
- The replay is missing: a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be archived. For important replays, use shorter broadcasts and retain a local recording as a separate backup.
- YouTube flags content or interrupts the stream: inspect Studio notifications and review rights for music, clips, slides, images and contributions in the lecture. Remove or replace material you cannot lawfully use.
