How the setup works
The shuffle happens before YouTube receives the stream. Your playback or automation system chooses gaming videos and supplies them in sequence to an encoder; the encoder sends one continuous live feed to YouTube. Choose a system that can actually shuffle and continue
Before relying on any encoder or playback automation, confirm its current documentation covers the complete workflow. A product that can broadcast a file does not necessarily provide randomized selection or unattended advancement.

The cited YouTube guidance establishes encoder streaming generally; it does not validate a particular application or its shuffle, repeat-avoidance, or unattended-playback features. Check those capabilities with the software’s own current documentation and test them before using it for a public broadcast.
Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Create the event: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the live stream you intend to use.
- Get the connection details: Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that event. A stream key is a credential that lets the encoder send a feed to your channel; keep it private and do not share it. YouTube’s encoder setup guide
- Configure the encoder: Enter the URL and key in the encoder or automation system following its documented YouTube output procedure. The exact field names and shuffle controls depend on the tool, so do not assume a particular menu path.
- Test before going public: Use a private or unlisted event where available. Check the Live Control Room preview, confirm the event is accessible as intended, and monitor audio and video quality. YouTube recommends testing and previewing before going live. YouTube’s live-streaming tips
- Check the source sequence independently: Confirm that the order is randomized as expected, files advance without gaps, audio remains intelligible across transitions, and the system behaves correctly at the end of the list and after a restart.
- Go public only after the test passes: Start the public event using the encoder and Live Control Room workflow, then monitor stream health. When finished, stop the encoder feed and confirm the event has ended.
Settings and YouTube controls that affect the result
Bitrate and stream quality
Choose a bitrate that your upload connection can sustain reliably rather than simply selecting the highest available value. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health, but the cited guidance does not establish a single bitrate for every resolution, frame rate, encoder, and connection. HLS ingestion, if you use it
These protocol requirements apply only if your encoder sends the stream using HLS; they are not shuffle settings. YouTube’s HLS instructions require TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, prohibit byte ranges, require HTTPS POST/PUT requests, and limit the rolling playlist to no more than five outstanding segments. DVR is for viewers, not the playlist
Enabling DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume the live event. It does not shuffle, select, or reorder the gaming videos sent by your encoder. YouTube’s live-stream settings

Copyright and channel-policy checks
Only stream videos and audio you have the rights or permissions to broadcast. Having a game recording on your computer—or having uploaded it before—does not by itself establish that every included element is cleared for a livestream. Check the applicable rights for gameplay, music, overlays, and other third-party material, and review YouTube’s current live-stream and channel policies before scheduling a long-running event. Do not assume that shuffling or repeating files makes reused material acceptable or avoids copyright enforcement.
Troubleshoot a continuous shuffled stream
- YouTube receives no video: Check that the encoder is running, the correct event’s stream URL and key are entered, and the event preview is receiving a feed. Re-copy the key if needed, keeping it private.
- The stream starts but one video never advances: The playback system may not support automatic next-file playback, or its playlist may be configured to repeat one item. Check the tool’s documented queue and advancement behavior.
- The order is not shuffled: Confirm that random selection is enabled in the source or automation system. YouTube does not perform this shuffle for an encoder feed.
- The broadcast stops at the final file: Check the configured end-of-list behavior. Set and test the intended outcome—such as reshuffling or restarting—if the tool supports it.
- There are gaps, abrupt cuts, or inconsistent audio: Test transitions and audio levels between the actual files in the playback system. YouTube’s preview can help identify problems in the incoming feed, but it does not fix source sequencing.
- The feed drops or stream health degrades: Check the encoder’s connection and the reliability of the upload connection; reduce the load if the chosen bitrate cannot be sustained. Test recovery behavior instead of assuming the application will resume automatically.

Does the YouTube playlist-loop feature shuffle videos sent by an encoder?
