You can run a 24/7 devotional music stream on YouTube by using original recordings or recordings whose owners have expressly authorized continuous online streaming, then keeping a playlist and encoder running—or using a cloud service to play uploaded videos. Buying or downloading a bhajan does not by itself give you streaming rights. Clear both the song’s composition and the specific recording, and ask relevant rights holders to add your channel to their YouTube Content ID allowlist before launch.
How do I stream devotional music 24/7 on YouTube?
Treat this as two separate jobs: clear the music for the use you intend, and set up a continuous stream that can recover from technical interruptions. A working encoder cannot make uncleared music legal, and permission to use a recording does not keep an encoder, power supply or internet connection running.
- Make a track inventory. List every recording you plan to play. For each, note the composition and lyrics, performers, label and sound-recording owner where known. A traditional prayer or old lyric does not establish that a particular singer’s performance, arrangement or recording is free to stream.
- Choose recordings you can clear. The simplest rights path is often your own recordings, with written agreements covering the contributors’ work and the recording. For third-party music, obtain written permission from the relevant owners for a continuous YouTube livestream and any additional use, such as an archived replay.
- Check composition rights separately. IPRS licenses works in its repertoire and groups its offerings into categories that include internet non-interactive and internet interactive use. Search its repertoire and ask IPRS which category and terms apply to your proposed stream. IPRS says its license does not convey rights belonging to a non-member publisher or owner, so clear any rights outside its scope directly with the owner.
- Clear the sound recording for digital streaming. PPL’s current tariff guidance says its on-ground license does not cover digital streaming of recordings. Its guidance advises contacting individual labels for digital use. Do not treat an on-ground permission or a purchased disc as authorization to stream a recording online.
- Get the channel allowlisted before testing. Ask each relevant licensed owner to add your YouTube channel to its Content ID allowlist. Keep written permission and the track list together. YouTube says licensed material can still trigger an interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.
- Decide whether the stream will be archived. Confirm that the permission covers the replay or video-on-demand use before retaining an archive. YouTube says claims on archived live streams are made after the stream ends if you choose to archive it.
- Build and test the rotation. Arrange the authorized recordings in a playlist, test the stream with material cleared for that use, and decide who will monitor it. A test does not establish that every track in a larger catalog is cleared.
- Plan for interruptions. Decide how you will respond to an encoder, power or internet failure, and how the stream will restart. If you use one internet connection, consider whether a tested backup connection is practical for your location.
When requesting permission, identify the recordings, the continuous YouTube livestream, any archive or replay, the territory and term, monetization or sponsorship plans, and how Content ID claims and allowlisting will be handled. This is a practical checklist, not a statutory form or a substitute for advice on a particular license.
Can I play bhajans on a 24/7 YouTube live stream?
Yes, if you have the rights needed for the specific recordings and the intended use. The devotional nature of a song does not create an exemption for a recording. A traditional melody, an old lyric, a new arrangement, a performer’s rendition and a released sound recording can raise distinct rights questions. Verify each track rather than assuming that the age or religious purpose of the material makes it free to broadcast.

IPRS says its repertoire search contains more than 600,000 song titles, but the database is continually updated and may not be exhaustive. A song’s absence from the search alone is not proof that no rights exist. Confirm the relevant rights with the owners as well as checking whether an IPRS license category applies.
Do I need permission if I bought or downloaded the songs?
Usually, possession of a copy is not the same as permission to communicate the music to the public through a continuous online stream. IPRS says purchasing a copy does not grant public-performance rights; PPL likewise says buying records or discs does not authorize public performance. Digital streaming rights for a particular recording may need to be obtained directly from its label or owner.

Clear the composition and sound recording separately where applicable. An IPRS license concerns the repertoire it controls; it is not universal clearance for every right in a track. PPL’s described on-ground permissions do not authorize online digital streaming of recordings. If a track has several relevant owners, confirm the scope with each one whose rights are needed.
Why does YouTube stop a live stream for copyright?
YouTube states that all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. If its systems identify material and it remains in the stream, YouTube can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. YouTube also warns: “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the content.”

That is why written permission and Content ID handling are separate launch checks. Before going live, ask the rights holder how to have your channel allowlisted, confirm the permission covers continuous YouTube streaming, and keep the response. If an interruption occurs, identify the matched material and contact the relevant owner; do not assume that restarting the same uncleared or unallowlisted track will solve the problem.
What equipment and stream settings do I need?
For a radio-style devotional program with a still visual, a computer encoder may be sufficient. A dedicated hardware video encoder is another possible publishing device for an operator who wants a standalone setup, but it is not established as a requirement. Check compatibility with the workflow you choose; no particular consumer model or performance advantage is established here.

Computer-based setup
Prepare an audio-video input or a still visual with the playlist, then use a compatible encoder to send the stream to YouTube. Follow the current encoder settings shown for your stream in YouTube’s live setup rather than treating unrelated webcast specifications as YouTube requirements. Set the output resolution, frame rate, bitrate and keyframe interval to match the selected YouTube configuration and the quality of your source. Keep the stream key private, and use the stream key associated with the intended YouTube broadcast.
Bandwidth and infrastructure
NIC’s webcast guidance specifies a static public IP, outbound access for RTMP port 1935 and dedicated bandwidth of 2–4 Mbps per stream for its own webcast service. Those are NIC-specific requirements—not published YouTube settings, a guarantee of 24/7 uptime or a substitute for backup power and connectivity. For a YouTube stream, use YouTube’s current configuration and test that your actual connection can sustain it.

Playlist, monitoring and recovery
- Use a rotation containing only recordings cleared for the planned livestream and, if relevant, archive.
- Arrange a monitoring schedule or alert process so someone can respond when playback stops or YouTube interrupts the stream.
- Plan how the encoder will be restarted after a computer, power or internet failure, and check that the playlist resumes at a sensible point.
- Test any backup connection and recovery steps before relying on them. A second connection that has not been tested is not a dependable fallback.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube interrupts the stream after a match. Check which material was identified, verify that the relevant permission covers the use, and ask the owner about Content ID allowlisting. Do not treat a license as proof that the channel has been allowlisted.
- A track is missing from the IPRS search. The repertoire database may not be exhaustive. Confirm the work and relevant rights with its owners rather than interpreting absence as permission.
- You have a PPL on-ground license but want to stream online. PPL’s current tariff guidance says that on-ground use does not cover digital streaming of recordings. Contact the label or recording owner about digital permission.
- The stream stops when the computer or connection fails. Check power, internet and encoder status, then follow the restart procedure you tested. Consider a tested backup connection or a cloud-based setup if keeping local equipment online is impractical.
- The livestream was allowed, but you want to keep the replay. Check that your permission explicitly covers the archive or replay. YouTube says archived live streams may receive claims after the stream ends.
- The stream looks or sounds poor, or will not connect. Compare the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, bitrate and keyframe interval with the current YouTube live configuration for that broadcast. Check stream-key selection and outbound connectivity. Do not substitute NIC’s service-specific bandwidth or network specifications for YouTube’s settings.
